Hi Everyone!

For those of you who were able to make it to our New Volunteer Trainings this past September- thank you! We are super excited to have such a strong team of student advocates here at our West Office, and appreciated your willingness to share and participate throughout the trainings.

We have a few upcoming events/reminders that I just wanted to share with everyone- feel free to reach out with any questions!

Picking up extra shifts! If anyone is interested or able to pick up extra shifts this MONDAY, October 3^rd in the morning (somewhere between 9-1), we would greatly appreciate it. You don’t necessary have to come in for a full three-hour shift, but having some extra hands on board would be great. Also, we have a shortage of volunteers on Tuesdays in general, so if you feel that you could potentially come in on Tuesdays, definitely let me know!

Our first biweekly meeting of the semester is on Tuesday, October 4^th from 7pm-8:30pm in Penn’s Arch Building. I will send out an email on Tuesday with the room number. For our first meeting, we will be talking about housing in Philadelphia, and doing a simulation activity. Just a reminder that biweeklies are mandatory for ALL volunteers- for our returners, we would like to ask you to share some of your experiences with housing situations in particular with our new volunteers, so come prepared for discussion!

LIFT’s Open House is on Wednesday, October 12^th from 3pm-6pm! I am attaching the flyer for the open house if any of you want to pass it along to friends and family. This is great opportunity to bring friends or family to our new office and show them around, and to also help the LIFT staff in greeting and hosting community partners, clients, and guests in the area. If your shift is on Wednesday afternoon, plan to come in for your shift as scheduled! For anyone who wants more information on ways to help out for the Open House, just shoot me an email. Scholarship opportunity! The Association of Career Professionals International-Greater Philadelphia Network will be hosting their 2011 Professional Development Conference on Future Trends in Career Management on October 21^st from 8am-4pm. I am attaching a flyer about the conference, but the conference will feature Dr. Richard Feller, a professor in counseling and career development at Colorado State University. The conference members will be sponsoring scholarships for interns/students who work with career counseling at a non-profit to attend the conference, so if any of you are interested in attending this conference free of charge, let me know and I can submit a nomination on your behalf for the scholarship! The deadline for nominations is Monday, October 3^rd at 5pm, so let me know ASAP if you are interested!
