Need help with a Asus 27" monitor I bought. Model VK278Q. The issue is that the webcam will not work properly. Various applications can see the webcam, but I just get a black box. From what I have read, the issue seems to be that there are no official drivers for the webcam.

I thought someone in this community might be able to offer some help before I return the monitor. I read somewhere that it may be possible to tweat the OS so that the iSight software will work for the monitor webcam.

I finally realized after hours of reading these forums, switching between HDMI and DVI cables, downloading various software, and testing all of the solutions provided, that the built-in webcam actually connects separately through the USB connection on the monitor. Duh!

Seems counterintuitive for a built in camera to require extra cables. I simply added a USB cable from the monitor to my 2014 mac mini (yosemite 10.10.5) then set the camera in Skype preferences to the ASUS USB2.0 camera that it recognized - And voila!

Hi there. OK another 2 steps forward and one back. Now that I loaded the software, I can record a video using the ASUS webcam. So, we now know there is no hardware issue. But, none of my applications that use webcam -- Skype, iChat, Facetime -- recognize the ASUS webcam. See screenshot of USB Vision preferences showing my live picture in the preview section...

I had no luck with that though. So either my theory is wrong or I didn't do it right.
I'm going to play some more and see what I can come up with. But by the looks of things so far, lowering the resolution seems to fix it in USBVision.

Now open the program you want to use your webcam on. Photo Booth, Skype, whatever. Select the webcam/input source in the preferences of the program as 'Cam Twist'. Then in Cam Twist click your saved setup in the 'Saved Setups' list (mine is ASUS Cam), and click the 'Select' button at the bottom. - You can also select 'Auto load' to have it load that setup every time.

Number 2 of course can be a flaw, because people can watch you through your webcam, and the only way you know if someone's doing that (for the average user) is if the light's on. So make sure you switch Cam Twist off when you're not using your webcam.

Sorry for the delayed response. Unfortunately, this did not help me. CamTwist installed and I can see my image in the preview. But, it does not drive the camera in any of the apps. Boy is this frustrating.

Ummm... Just a thought, John.... With all you have tried unsuccessfully, and with ASUS's own Service Center telling you that your Mac is not supported, it seems it might be time to consider some Mac compatible hardware alternatives instead.

Hi there. OK, my words are not precise enough... My issue is that I purchased the monitor with a webcam integrated so buying a stand alone web cam defeats the whole purpose. I need to find a way to make this webcam work. So, I need a s/w solution. That is what I am asking the universe to help me figure out.

But as all of you found out it does not work. I did try USBvision trick at 320x240 and that worked. I tried CamTwist but have different result. First I don't see CamTwist as an option in the aplications webcam list but it still worked with PhotoBooth as described above by others.

I just got a Mac Mini and an Asus monitor with webcam, same problem. Camtwist didn't work nor did anything else. Just found a great app called iglasses and it worked!! With Photbooth and Facetime anyway, I don't use Skype. Still need a mic though as the webcam doesn't have one. Stupid right? anyway here is the website :

A few weeks ago, my ROG Phone 6 (global) started having issues with the camera, the front camera button would go missing and the pictures taken from the main camera looked weird.. I had to restart the phone to get them working again but overtime it got worse and the restarting did not help anymore. I figured it was a software issue so I cleared the cache of the camera which did not fix it and I wanted to clear the cache of the phone itself but couldnt as it was not unlocked nor rooted. I posted on xda and someone else told me that they had the exact same issue and it was a driver issue(?). The flashlight function does not work as well from the notification shade. Weird thing is the front camera works in apps like WhatsApp so I know it is working and it isnt a hardware issue. I thought it would be fixed with the A13 update, but it did not.

Exactly... Cameras are working... Seem to be a driver issued as someone pointed out on xda. Please give us a proper solution rather than just giving the default go to the service centre... It's really out of the way and inconvenient for me.

After investigating your log @Rowdyruffbrick, they came to the conclusion that it is a Hardware Issue and needs to be checked by a Service Center.

I could always try with someone else's Log-file, in case they find something different but at the moment that's the solution given.

Also I've found problems with my SMMI test also, where the Front Camera test is assigned to the ultrawide camera, the rear camera 1 is assigned to the front camera, rear camera 2 is assigned to what I assume to be either the main or macro camera, and opening rear camera 3 test just crashes the app

i also have same issue. the front camera can be use in other app but not on camera apps. please do something. as if everyone who own rog phone series has the same hardware problem for camera, worldwide simultaneously. please do better and dont ask us to go the nearest service centre. thank you.

You can scan for driver updates automatically and install them manually with the free version of the ASUS Camera Driver Update Utility, or complete all necessary driver updates automatically using the premium version.

Click the Update button next to your driver. The correct version will be downloaded and installed automatically. Or, you can click the Update All button at the bottom to automatically download and install the correct version of all the drivers that are missing or out-of-date on your system.

To find the latest driver, including Windows 11 drivers, choose from our list of most popular ASUS Camera downloads or search our driver archive for the driver that fits your specific ASUS camera model and your PC's operating system.

After downloading your driver update, you will need to install it. Driver updates come in a variety of file formats with different file extensions. For example, you may have downloaded an EXE, INF, ZIP, or SYS file. Each file type has a slightly different installation procedure to follow. Visit our Driver Support Page to watch helpful step-by-step videos on how to install drivers based on their file extension.

It is recommended you update your Asus Webcam Drivers regularly in order to avoid conflicts. Driver updates will resolve any Driver conflict issues with all devices and improve the performance of your PC.

With the popularity of zoom and software using webcams, it has become more important than ever to ensure that your Asus Webcam works. Problems with Webcams can be very frustrating but there is often an easy fix.

The first thing to check is your actual web camera. Is there something blocking the camera itself? It is usually somewhere on the top of your screen. Ensure there is nothing blocking the actual camera before proceeding.

To fix your Asus Drivers problems you will need to know the particular model of the Asus Webcam device you are having problems with. Once you have the details you can search the Asus website for your drivers and, if available, download and install these drivers.

If you are unsure of whether or not you need to update your Drivers, or indeed which Drivers may need to be updated, you can run a Drivers scan using a driver update tool (you will need to pay to register this tool but usually the Drivers scan is free). This will allow you to assess your Driver needs without any commitment. Alternatively, you can use the device manager to check if there are problems with any of your hardware devices.

In many cases the answer to this is yes, however in some cases the manufacturers no longer make the Drivers available so you need to use a Driver Update Tool to install the missing Drivers. The purpose of such as tool is to save you time and effort by automatically downloading and updating the Drivers for you.

A Driver Update Program will instantly resolve your drivers problems by scanning your PC for outdated, missing or corrupt drivers, which it then automatically updates to the most compatible version.

Note: The screenshots below have been mostly taken from a Windows 10 operating system. If you are using Windows 11, please be aware that the visual appearance of your screen may vary slightly, but the steps to perform the task remain consistent.

Under some circumstances, your camera may still act up after the related driver is up to date. To fix the issue quickly, you can launch Driver Easy, and click Uninstall driver next to your webcam driver, and restart your PC.

If you prefer to do it manually, you can uninstall the driver and delete the driver file from your system in Device Manager, and restart your computer to let the system reinstall the correct driver for you.

Restart your computer and the camera driver should be reinstalled automatically. If the camera is still not working, try to re-enable it by pressing the Fn and F10 keys at the same time.

After installing OpenNI 2.1 Beta & avin2/SensorKinect, now the ASUS & PrimeSense both don't work: openni_launch reports: No devices connected.... waiting for devices to be connected . I guess the package name should have been a give away!

Thanks @Akin I will try that. Here is something you can test: try plugging your sensors into different USB ports. You should find that when you run openni_launch it reports that the device is connected to a different USB bus. Normally you will find the ports are on at least 2 different buses....
