Lifta,
your sons and daughters long
for you-
long for the echo
of their childhoods and peace
in Palestine...

Lifta, your children
know your stones.
They know your slopes
and terraces
and paths.
They know your buildings
and the fresh water spring.
They know the heat of summer sun.
They know your shadows
and sweet spots
where herbs grow
and they know
the taste of home made bread.
They know the history of home
and exile...

They know life moves on
with every generation rediscovering
connections to the past.
