However, I still want to read certain things on my Android tablet which the e-ink display and/or small form factor of the e-reader just doesn't do justice to, and I have been spoiled now. I had previously kept ebooks in a file structure that would let me navigate to them through device storage, but I am wondering if there is an app out there that is a fully baked ebook reading app that can parse metadata from Calibre and create collections / shelves / series etc.
Then there is the metadata ToC. A metadata ToC is a ToC that is not part of the book text and is typically accessed by some special button on a reader. For example, in the calibre E-book viewer, you use the Show Table of Contents button to see this ToC. This ToC cannot be styled by the book creator. How it is represented is up to the viewer program.
calibre can directly connect to all the major (and most of the minor) e-bookreading devices, smartphones, tablets, etc. In addition, using theConnect to folder function you can use it with any e-book readerthat exports itself as a USB disk. Finally, you can connect wirelessly to anydevice that has a web browser using the calibre Content server.
This happens because of an Amazon bug. They try to download a cover for thebook from their servers and when that fails, they replace the existing coverthat calibre created with a generic cover. For details see this forum thread. As of version4.17, calibre has a workaround, where if you connect the Kindle to calibreafter the covers have been destroyed by Amazon, calibre will restore themautomatically. So in order to see the covers on your Kindle, you have to:
There is no official version of Calibre for Android, but there are several ways to get your Calibre library onto your Android device. The easiest way is with the officially-sanctioned Calibre Companion app, which can sync your library wirelessly. You can then use an ebook reader app to read your synced books.
4. Read Books with Android Readers
You can read the downloaded books in Calibre Companion with an android reader such as FBReader. Tap the book and then tap "READ" option. Or long press the book and choose a reader to read.
On 31 October 2006, when Sony introduced its PRS-500 e-reader, Kovid Goyal started developing libprs500, aiming mainly to enable use of the PRS-500 formats on Linux.[4] With support from the MobileRead forums, Goyal reverse-engineered the proprietary Broad Band eBook (BBeB) file format. In 2008, the program, for which a graphical user interface was developed, was renamed "calibre", displayed in all lowercase.[5]
Before we dive into whether Calibre is safe, it's important to understand what the software does. Calibre gives you the power to manage your eBook collection. You can use it to convert one eBook format to another, edit eBook files, and view your ebooks by using it as an e-reader.
The virtual library management tools allow you to store and sort all your ebooks in one place, organizing and searching for them by metadata. You can also use Calibre to send ebooks to various e-readers, including emailing them to your Kindle device, Android device, and a number of other e-book reader devices.
I'm using an open source e-book manager calibre to manage my e-books. When I get a new e-book I add it to the calibre libary and then synchoronize it to e-readers. I plug-in my e-readers over USB to my PC. On Windows 10 both devices were recognized as e-readers by calibre. Now on ZorinOS only the Tolino is being recognized as e-reader.
I can still access the internal storage of the device under linux, so as a workaround I can just copy & paste e-books directly to the storage. But it would be great if it would get recognized by calibre as e-reader as well.

Calibre (/ˈkælɪbər/, stylised calibre) is a cross-platform free and open-source suite of e-book software. Calibre supports organizing existing e-books into virtual libraries, displaying, editing, creating and converting e-books, as well as syncing e-books with a variety of e-readers. Editing books is supported for EPUB and AZW3 formats. Books in other formats like MOBI must first be converted to those formats, if they are to be edited.
Automate various tasks in Calibre's ebook editor. Plugin allows to chain multiple actions together. You can choose from Plugin specific actions, calibre builtin actions, or create you own actions through the plugin's module editor.
And then, it was done. The book was imported. I noticed the cover image was black & white ratherthan color, but that's easily solvable. I opened the book in the Calibre ebook reader, to verify that Iindeed the DRM component was removed.
FBReader is undeniably one of the best ebook reader apps available on the Android platform. Besides a comprehensive feature set, the app also lets you obtain ebooks from different sources, including the Calibre library stored on your machine. This is, indeed, a nifty feature which can be used to effortlessly transfer ebooks from an existing Calibre library to your Android device. To make use of this functionality, you need to enable Calibre's built-in content server first. To do this, launch Calibre on your machine, press the Connect/share button on the main toolbar, choose the Start Content Server command, and note the IP address of the content server.
FBReader is a lightweight, multi-platform ebook reader, free but not open-source, supporting various formats like ePub, fb2, mobi, RTF, HTML, etc. It includes access to popular network libraries from where you can download ebooks for free or buy one.
Easy Ebook Viewer is another fantastic GTK Python app for reading ePub files. With features like basic chapter navigation, continuing from the last reading positions, importing from other ebook file formats, chapter jumping, and more, Easy Ebook Viewer is a simple and minimalist ePub reader.
I didn't quite catch you. Did you get able to export the epub from apple book? As the instruction, copy the epub file for your book folder and change the file type to zip, then drag to the epub zip-unzip 64(Macos), it will generate a new epub file which you can open either in calibre or open ebook app. it works for me now.
Different devices will accomodate varying types of ebook formats and ebook reader apps. For example, the Mobipocket file will display nicely on a PC and Kindle but not work on an iPad or Sony Reader.
Also, for an eBook reader device to display an eBook, both the file format and DRM must be compatible with the ebook reader. So, for example, an iPad can only view a book from Amazon protected with Amazon DRM if the Amazon Kindle app is installed on the iPad.
