I have an intake form asking about medical health history. Participants can answer yes or no and the majority of the answers will (hopefully) be no. Is there anyway to let participants click no to all or tell REDCap to prefill answers as no and then let participants change their answers? This would be helpful for both data entry and if they are answering online.

Hi Alan,

If you haven’t seen it yet, the help section has this re: pre-filling answers (https://redcap.lifespan.org/redcap/index.php?action=help#survey_prefill), though I’m thinking it’s not exactly what you want.

Would a checkbox question with choices for each medical condition work for you?  If the checkbox for the condition is not checked off, a 0 will be stored in the dataset (value labels are '0' = unchecked, '1' = checked) for that choice.  So this automatically sets each condition to be answered “No” and allows participants to change the answer to “Yes” by checking the box.

When you download the data into SPSS, a checkbox field ‘condition’ with choices 1,2,3 becomes variables condition___1, condition___2, condition___3 so you may want to rename variable names and update variable and value labels.

Hope this helps,

Polly
