Hi everyone,

I would like to modify the randomization model of a study already in production. Is it possible without risk? Do you have any advice?

Thank you,

Regards,

Laurent

Hey Laurent,

Unfortunately, it is very challenging to modify the randomization module after a study has begun and data exists in the database. There are lots of implications to how it may effect your study design and they are entirely dependent on the specifics of your project. Additionally, how and to what extent you are modifying your randomization module will have many implicaitons to how it may affect your project especially if you are using the higher level randomization options (b and c versus a).

The only way to really go about doing this is to export the data, copy the project, delete the data in the copy and then upload the "fixed" randomization module, upload the data, then re-randomize the subjects. This does unfortunately mean you may end up randomizing some of your original subjects to groups that are different than they were originally in (depending on how you changed the randomization module). This approach will take lots of checking to ensure your data is not compromised.

Hey Ali,

Thank you so much for your precise answer and for the warnings! I will be very careful when I will do these modifications.

Something is still not so clear. Why do you advise me to delete the data in the copy of the project and then to import the exported data from the original project?

Thank you!

Regards
Laurent
