Hello REDCap community,
I was asked two questions about REDCap today that I could not answer: 1. if you are using SPSS, will the REDCap export tool put longitudinal data in wide format instead of long?
2. Can you change the order of questions after a project has been put into production? If so, is there any consequence?
Can any help? Thanks,
Grayson

Hi Grayson,
I don’t know for sure about question #1 since the project I work on is not longitudinal, but I do believe it uses the wide format and labels each variable with an event code. For question #2, you can move the order of the questions once it’s in production, although that change may require an approval from an administrator. You won’t lose any data as that is tied specifically to the variable name and not the order. You would have an issue if you change variable names although there are ways around this.

Hi Grayson,
Longitudinal data is exported in long format in SPSS. You can use the CASESTOVARS command to restructure the data from long to wide.
Best,
