Dearest Darling friends,
I believe, "Interest is more
POWERFUL than Intelligence."
Intelligence without interest is
useless.
Interest can help me to buy
intelligence, develop intelligence or to acquire intelligence.
Intelligence cannot help me buy interest.
While intelligence guides me logically,
interest ensures emotional investment and involvement. Together,
they are the most fantastic combination.
Mahatma Gandhi honed his intelligence in
Law. He went abroad to study law. He qualified himself as a lawyer.
BUT, his interest lay in gaining independence for his country. His
interest WON. He used his intelligence not for law but to find ways
and means to inspire our countrymen towards non-violence. Our
country gained freedom. History said, in about 5ooo years of human
civilisation, independence has never been acquired by any country
through non-Violence. However, Mahatma Gandhi was interested in
non-violence as the means of independence. He was opposed and
ridiculed. He was taunted and heckled. His interest did not vane.
Ultimately non-violence was the strongest weapon that dealt the blow
to the might of the British empire.
Ratan Tata honed his intelligence in
Architecture. He qualified himself as an architect. He did not
practice architecture as his interest lay in taking the business
conglomerate 'Tata group' to the next level. His interest WON. He
backed his interest with his intelligence. Today, under his
stewardship, Tata group of companies have pioneered new standards of
manufacturing, innovation, courage, low cost production,
philanthropy, etc. for our nation India as well as the world. It is
not his qualification and acquired intelligence but his interest
that made him achieve what he did.
Superstar Rajnikant was a bus ticket
collector. Ice cool captain of Indian Cricket team Mahendra Singh
Dhoni was employed by the Indian Railways. While one excelled in
Films, the other has conquered almost every international trophy in
Cricket. Is there a link between the two? You guessed it right.
While both were good in their jobs, their interest lay somewhere
else. They backed their interests with intelligence.
MS Dhoni had no godfather, no big city
coaching gurus, no international exposure at all. No force could
stop him. He is the only captain amongst all the cricketing nations
in the world, who captains his team in ALL formats of the game. Was
all this possible without undying interest? Not at all!! He backed
up his interest with intelligence.
Intelligence would have told Shivaji the
great Maratha warrior, it is impossible to take on the might of the
Mughals. Shivaji was not interested in being a satrap. He was
interested in being a KING!!! While intelligence told him to give
up, his interest pushed him to find ways. His interest won. He
backed it up with all the intelligence he had. He ruled as an
independent KING.
However, the examples of Mahatma Gandhi,
Ratan Tata, Rajnikant, MS Dhoni, Shivaji does not mean this equation
is used only for the 'right' things.
Terrorists are interested in creating
'terror'. They use intelligence to find out how, when, where to do
that. Most politicians are interested in amassing money. They use
intelligence to find ways to do that! So on and so forth...
How to transform them? Threats and force
will not work. There is only one way. They have to be made
'interested' in something else that is productive to them and
purposeful for others too.
Today there is a lot of discussion on
'living as per our interests'. Yes, this is the right thinking.
However, it must be backed by intelligent efforts and thinking.
Remember, INTEREST and INTELLIGENCE is
an awesome combination. The soul is INTEREST. The body is
INTELLIGENCE. Human body without a soul, stinks.
Lets ensure, our life has fragrance by
combining Interest with Intelligence.
With love, prayers and best wishes,
naren
