Dearest Darling friends,

I had one of the most amazing day of my life with a dear friend Roshan last weekend.

sunset We had met after a long long time gap of 5 years minus two days. Now, this is Roshan for you. He remembers small trivia that are so interesting that the heart goes either wow or 'are you kidding'?

It was a typical reunion between two friends. Before we met, we thought there is so much to talk. We were waiting to meet. We had scheduled hours together. And then when we met....the topics we thought will take hours to discuss, were completed within a few minutes.

That evening we decided to just chill out with each other. Roshan had got tea, prepared by his mother, for us in a flask. We were sitting on a bench in a park near my house in Pune. We had finished the obvious questions and updates. We just wanted to be with each other more. But we did not know what else to talk? Has this ever happened to you? With your old friends? With your old best friends? It is a little awkward and absolutely funny.

I was groping my memory for something interesting to share. I was also groping to ask something interesting. I knew we used to laugh a lot in each other's presence. I was also groping to say something that will make him double up and laugh his guts out. It was a sight to see him laugh.

I glanced aside to see what were the expressions on Roshan's face. To my amused surprise, my friend Roshan was absolutely blissful. His eyes had a shine. His face reflected serenity. He was gently rocking on the seat in the park where we were sitting. There was a gentle hmm on his lips. I was amazed. It was the most wonderful sight of a person I had ever seen in life. Then I saw his eyes fill with tears. Just a few drops. His smile widened. I was curious. He caught my eyes. He smiled again. I wanted to know the secret of his intense peace and unbound joy.

I believed he could 'feel' my thoughts. However, he continued to remain silent. I did not have the heart to disturb him, to stop his flow of joy. He turned towards me and smiled again. I felt his bliss being transferred to me. I again felt I was intruding  into his space. I looked in the direction where he was looking a few seconds ago. I suddenly realized darkness making her presence felt, ever so lightly.

He broke the silence after a few more seconds. "Naren, do you know I love this evening time. The sun is setting, the breeze has begun to say bye to all things in nature. There is an amazing sweetness in the atmosphere. The nature of nature is changing. It is getting ready to sleep. So that it can nourish us, once again, tomorrow. The lights are just beginning to come on in a few balconies. Sometimes you can hear prayers begin in places of worship. Today, I am with a dear friend whom I totally trust. We are having mummy made lovely masala Tea. Ahhhh! What more could I want in life? I am blessed !!! "

I was speechless. I marveled at what Roshan had said. "Can someone feel so much bliss just by observing the advent of darkness? Wow..." This is truly superb, I thought.

Roshan continued, "Naren, we want to be with great friends so much. I love your company. Thanks for taking out time for me. You are and you will remain my best friend."

He took a pause and said, "I see this time of the day as my time with my god, nature. He is my best friend too. I take this time to be with him, to feel his presence. I take this time to develop relationship with him." All the time when he shared this with me, his peace radiated on his face. Darkness had arrived. In a few minutes, I could not see his face any more, only the silhouette was visible. But I felt, I have never seen him more clearly ever before.

From a deep sense of peace within, I heard myself saying, "I have spent countless hours with people wanting to develop relationships believing it will take me closer to some treasures some day. Today, I realized in these few minutes with you, if I invest a few moments enjoying the creations of the creator, I am enjoying priceless treasures already within me. Thank you for taking time out for me! You too will always remain my best friend"

I too had a tear in my eyes. It was a complete moment. I was not wearing Raymonds but I felt like a complete man. A part of that tear was out of gratitude for Roshan. Indeed he had lived his name for he had shown me light (Roshan in Hindi language means brightness). In that light I had experienced a treasure that I would have otherwise missed forever. A part of that tear belonged to the experience that explanations will never convey adequately.

In the place where you live, do you have evenings? If yes, do not waste another one. Go to a place where you can experience nature. Maybe, take a wonderful friend with you. And....you know what to do ! Do nothing but FEEL the evening.

That evening with Roshan I also realized, great friends need not talk and create moments of great memories. Moments of togetherness, enveloped in silence, too provide complete and truly great memories. May you have yours soon.

With love, prayers and best wishes,

naren
