E. vulture with ring

Dear Colleagues,

on July 26, 2024, a young Egyptian vulture 4CY with a ring was photographed by Mr. Paolo Niccolai in Italy.

 

The Egyptian vulture was flying very high so the photo is not very clear.

 

Does anyone recognize the ring?

The ring seems very blurred.  Does the observer noticed any of the  letters / numbers ?

Hi Guido,

I can't even see the color of the ring. Any chance the observer noted the color?

We (in Israel) use rings that look the same size as this one and we ring the birds on the left leg like in the photo, but almost all our EV have GPS tags and we have no birds in Italy (unless the tag fell or not working).

Hi Ron,

unfortunately he only noticed the ring by zooming in on the photo, the bird was too far away to see the color anyway.

It is definitely not a bird from Bulgaria as we do not use colour rings on Egyptian Vultures since 2010.

Hopefully, the bird will be seen again somewhere in Italy, it is very intriguing where it came from

It’s quite hard to be sure of the color of the ring, and the number of digits…  It could be a white one…

In France we use white ring with a 2 alpha-numeric code in south-east and white ring with a 3 alpha-numeric code in Pyrénées.

 

In Spain, it seems that there is also a program with white rings…

As the color of the ring is not easy to see it... there is a MM... Little bit visible, so maybe as we tagged a juvenile Egyptian vulture in Djibouti in February 2022 with rings MM... looking alike, maybe my friend and colleague Mike McGrady probably in cc to these exchanges, can say a word on it.

Hi, I already had answered to Guido,   but just to remind ; in France, rings are white with 3 digits in  french pyrenean  nucleus population ( and always the letter ‘’P’’ )   and 2 digits in Sout-east  french nucleus population .

 

Thus, 4CY is not a french ring
