Egyptian Vulture increase in Bulgaria

Dear colleagues,

We are very glad to share with you some good news from Bulgaria - this year we recorded a 20% increase in the number of Egyptian Vulture territories. For two consecutive years the numbers are increasing which is giving hope for the species recovery on the Balkans

Volen, these are amazing news and another confirmation that dedicated work brings results!

We can not complement the story with latest numbers from North Macedonia due to absence of monitoring, but in 2023 we also saw an increase in the number of territories occupied (+2, pair+single bird). Strangely, they both seem empty again this season, plus, we have lost one single bird that was holding a territory last year. That said, the decline has certainly slowed down and I think next season with a more detailed survey, we will also confirm real increase.
