Hello Everyone;
Three organizations - Agro Rangers Trust, Indradhanusha Youth Social Foundation and Shekru Foundation invite you to the Millet Jatra at the Monalisa Kalagram, Koregaon Park, Pune this Sunday, 21st August 2022, from 10am to 9pm. Come taste, buy, play, hear, dialogue with farmers, entrepreneurs, self help groups, krishi vigyan kendra, seed banks, nutritionists, public health professionals, NGOs and chefs. Admission is free..
2023 has been declared as the International Year of Millets by the United Nations and Government of India. Not only are millets nutritious, they are also hardy, climate resilient crops, their use as livestock fodder, poultry feed and for biofuels makes them multipurpose and important as well. Livelihood security, Nutrition diversity in times of climate change all form key themes here. Our historical biodiversity in these grains is very rich, there are 10 that have got more public prominence, maybe a lot of them still out there yet to be known, still many to be officially acknowledged - and 100s if not more regional/local varieties of each. Sorghum, Pearl, Finger, Foxtail, Barnyard, Browntop, Proso, Little, Kodo, Adlay form the 10 here in India: historically grown, traditionally consumed millets but there's many more for sure.
Below is the banner for the festival (English below, Marathi attached).
