This is may Pleasure   to share a good news with you, that a Camel breed of Kutch known as Kharai Camel has been recognised as distinct camel breed of India by NBAGR, Hon'ble Chief Minister of Gujarat Smt. Anandiben Patel made official announcement on this on 18th April in a Public Programme at  Dayapar of Lakhapat Block district Kutch.

Compliments to Mr. Bhatti and SAHAJEEVAN colleagues for their efforts to get KHARAI recognized as a distinct breed of camels.
 
I sincerely hope and pray that their interest in Camels of Kutch goes beyond getting the breed recognised - there is a greater challenge waiting for them - "Sustaining Camel Keeping". I am hopeful that the team has given due thought to ways of making camel keeping sustainable and check decline in camel population.

I hope SAHAJEEVAN would pursue the matter of marketing camel milk with AMUL as that could be one of the ways of improving income from camels.

In fact we are the only medium, the pastoralist are entitled to the right of the appreciation.

This success, has set new goals to achieve towards Conservation and protection of Kharai camel breed as well sustainable growth of Pastoralists livelihood.

This only happens through collective efforts by many peoples and institutions such as Camel Breeders Association of kuch, Pastoralist of  Kharai camel, Animal Husbandry Department GoG-India, Anand Agriculture University, FAO and Seva Madurai, NBAGR, Dr. Sadana, Dr. Ilse, Life Group, ICCO Corporation-India and Sahjeevan- Bhuj.

we heartily invite your views, comments and guidance on   further conservation  and development of Kharai Camel breed and sustainable livelihood development of camel pastoralists.
