Sveiki,

Geros dienos,

Leonas

Subject: 'Road of Life and Death' Tribute Run in Tartu 14JAN2025

Dear BDCOL community,

The 'Road of Life and Death' Tribute Run in Tartu is dedicated to remembering and marking the Day of Freedom Defenders in Lithuania.

On January 13, Lithuania commemorates the anniversary of the Day of Freedom Defenders. This day honors the memory of the victims of Soviet military aggression in Vilnius in 1991. On that date, the Soviet Union forcefully attempted to overthrow Lithuania's legitimate government, which had declared the country's independence on March 11, 1990. The Soviet army attacked the Vilnius TV tower, Lithuanian Radio and Television, and other strategic infrastructure. During the assault, 14 people were killed and hundreds were injured. These ordinary citizens became symbols of Lithuania’s victory in its fight for freedom.

Since then, a Tribute Run has been organized every year in Lithuania, starting from the Antakalnis Cemetery, where those who lost their lives are laid to rest, and ending at the TV tower.

To remember this important day we invite you and your family members to join for a symbolic run/walk starting Anne Kanal.

Date: 14 January 2025 (Tuesday)

Time: 1700

Place: Starting point at the Anne Kanal near the bridge

Participants: everyone is invited, including family members, big and little ones

What to expect: choose a big or small challenge (scan QR code or press link for details) or your own, hot tea, cookies, fireplace, and marshmallows to grill

See you,

Andrius
