Planning for the flight simulator began in Fall 2018, led by PC Gaming Club President Sarah Kanga Livingstone. Students in the club were able to create what you see today thanks to community members generously donating around $10,000. Students plan on continuing their fundraising efforts to improve the simulator. For many students, this is their first time interacting with an airplane cockpit. An augmented reality flight simulator like this project is designed to replicate the real thing. Studies show that simulations are effective ways of training the brain and this simulator can instill a love for flying, potentially leading students to a career in aviation. With the support of community members, this project was unveiled Spring Semester 2019, to great excitement.

In the Fall of 2021, several students started an Aviation Club at Cal Poly Humboldt to take on oversight of the flight simulator, among other goals. Jasmin Torres, a 4th year business major, became the founding president and worked with others to craft the club's founding mission statement. During this time, Tanner Hooven and other club members studied for and passed their FAA drone pilot exam. The club plans to meet in the LIbrary so they can learn the fundamentals of airplane operations using the flight simulator and share their passion of flying with others.

Choose from different types of aircraft, take off from airports all over the globe, and enjoy the scenery as you enjoy the flight simulator. All library visitors are encouraged to try it out! There are instructions nearby to help you start the engine, set the flaps, and take flight!

The excitement in powered flight is never more apparent than in a world-class fighter! Feel the rush of your F/A-18 Super Hornet as it blasts off from an aircraft carrier. See all around you as you perform various training tasks and see just how hard it is to land such a speedy aircraft on its home carrier!

Aviation Connection: The hands-on approach of the flight simulator is designed to spark an interest in aviation, especially for CAP cadets, ages 12 and above, who are given opportunities for orientation flights and flight training in CAP, especially in CAP's Youth Aviation Initiative. Due to the experience of CAP adult mentorship, a variety of flight planning options, as well as aviation careers, can be explored during participation with this kit.

For students in classrooms and youth organizations studying aviation education, these flight simulators should provide a realistic piloting experience as the youth begin their own flight training or aviation-related programs. (This is especially pertinent to AFJROTC cadets, and those in the AFJROTC Flight Academy. It is also pertinent to AOPA You Can Fly educators and students, as well as other aviation programs.) Educators should reach out to local pilots to assist in the flight simulator training and help mentor these youth. Although educators may have their own pilot connections, Civil Air Patrol pilots are an excellent resource, as noted above. So, to locate the closest CAP squadron(s), enter your ZIP code in the "find your local squadron" section of the CAP homepage HERE. Then, reach out to the squadron point of contact and request any pilot assistance in the implementation of the Flight Simulator Kit. Inviting some CAP cadets to come and speak to the youth about the benefits of being a CAP cadet would enhance the overall program experience.

KSBS is home to the only flight simulator offered by an FBO in the Colorado Mountain Region. The simulator was obtained with a generous grant from the Aviation Education Division of the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and matching funds from the City of Steamboat Springs.

Already have a trusted flight instructor whose teaching style and experience work well for you. Well, bring them along! Work together with your instructor to create a plan of action for your time in the AATD. When you register for an AATD session at EAAs Pilot Proficiency Center, you can select that you will provide your own instructor pilot.

Bad weather have your students grounded? Want to enhance your curriculum by adding flight simulation to your training program? Bring your students to EAAs Pilot Proficiency Center, rent one of our Redbird LDs, and train your students in an efficient and effective training environment.

The flight simulator is bookable by the hour and is perfect for those who are not quite ready to leave the ground. Each hour costs $70, and there is no limit to the number of individuals who can fly during that time. The Flight Simulator is a cost-efficient method to determine whether becoming a pilot something you want to make into a career or keep as a weekend hobby.
