But before we run across the street, we need to understand some things. If we run across the street to save this old man, what if we find that the old man had first wielded a gun and tried to rob the young man now fighting with him? We must know first that we have a just cause. Who started the fight, what are its origins? This is the reason we need to never rush into war, we must do some research.
If talking does no good, we must also search our own conscience. Why are we fighting? Do we have preconceived issues with this young man (the one attacking the elderly gentleman)? Maybe his truck runs loud down my street every day and I hate the noise; therefore I am more predisposed to want to fight with him? These are things that need to be on my mind. As they may be a nuisance to me, they play no role in him beating on this old man.
Lastly, we need to have the result in mind. What will this action look like, how will it finish? War without end, even a just war, is not godly. There must be an identifiable end. When the old man is safe and the young thug is in jail, end of violence.
