Jim and PNW fleet captains,I'd like to begin some dialogue about the one day regatta on Lake Sammamish WA that Jim Mackey has proposed for Spring 2013. Hopefully we can agree and put this on the calendar in short order.Jim has offered the use of his powerboat as a committee boat and will host the post-race party at his home. With 2 boats on Lake Samm, 2 nearby as Jim mentioned below, plus Matt Nolan and Jim Sterner, plus members of fleet 78, 25, and possibly 80, we could have a very strong turnout.I believe this would be best to schedule either before or after the Turtle Day Regatta at WSC/Portland (May 1 -2, 2013). Potentially mid April or mid-late May looks like it would work comfortably in the schedule.Open to suggestions/feedback/comments….jokes?Who is in? Who is not? We may want to schedule it but keep an eye on the wind forecast, and push out if it doesn't look good.No issues with lake level - it's 100' deep, and only varies few feet based on seasonal rain fall.On Sun, Nov 11, 2012 at 6:49 PM, Tony Billera <tony.b...@gmail.com> wrote:
I like it.What time of year does the wind come to Lake Samm?Any location for post racing gathering?
Best Regards,-Tony BilleraI live on the lake and have a powerboat for our committee boat. The challenge is staffing it with folks who know how to run a race. Need to recruit some volunteers, probably from outside of our lake community. But it's a year away so there's time to start thinking about it.On Sun, Nov 11, 2012 at 2:38 AM, Tony Billera <tony.b...@gmail.com> wrote:I make 5. Sounds good to me Jim.
You have two or three boats on the lake correct?
Best Regards,-Tony BilleraWe ought to try to do one on Lake Sammamish sometime in September. Perhaps an open to everyone, Fleet 80 Championship (unless we cover that in another regatta).I'd need some help / volunteers to pull it off. What do you guys think? On Wed, Nov 7, 2012 at 4:27 PM, Tony Billera <tony.b...@gmail.com> wrote:
Hi everyone. Special welcome to Lenore!I've assembled the PNW regattas I am aware of and assume will occur again in 2013.We can add to or modify this of course. Please let me know if you know dates that are missing in the attached Excel file. Also please reply with suggestions, modifications, or additions. Are there any events in Northern California, eastern WA/Idaho, or Owe should consider?I added the Seattle NOOD for comment…given it is late May the wind is typically lighter that Spring sailing. Thanks!

Hey guys –
I like the way the schedule is shaping up Tony. I would probably vote for another early regatta vs. fall, because fall is just so tough with school and sports in full swing. That said, the weather is much better usually, and the wind probably more reliable. So for everyone without kids in school, fall is probably better.
Jim, I would love to sail on Lake Sam again, but only if we can get a better solution for launching. The private club/park without a dock just is too tough (and the Police weren’t too happy with us that we used their dock J). Is there a better solution?
Thx,
Jim

Jim,
Love to see some comments from the gallery.
Having lived in Beaux Arts w community access to Lake WA I know September weekends can still be busy w powerboats and skiers, also typically lighter winds. I suspect Lake Samm is even worse in September.
It may also be too much w Harvest Day in late August (off they don't move it out as a minority down there suggested this past event and the the event at SSP which we have currently at 10/5.
Frankly if you want to do a Districts SSP may be preferable w the professional turnkey program they can provide for less than $200.
Gallery please comment.
