Hey Jim – thanks for thinking of this. I would love nothing more, and the weather looks like it is going to be nice this weekend too.
But I’m afraid that we are well into soccer season, and Carolyn and I have a game on Saturday afternoon. Between swim team and soccer, Fall is just shot for sailing for us. I’m crossing my fingers that Carolyn will follow Sarah’s lead and want to be on the sailing team in high school. J

Subject: Lidos at Sail Sand Point Octoberfest this weekend? - Perhaps our 2010 fleet championship?
Lido Fleet 80,
There is a regatta at Sail Sand Point this weekend. I think Lidos could enter if we were able to get a reasonable turn-out (Perhaps even less than 5 boats as Sand Point seems pretty flexible, particularly if we brought our own trophy). I think they would also let non-juniors (even old folks like us) participate - I believe they did last year, but we'd have to confirm
I know this is last minute, but our Regatta planning has been pretty limited this year, and this would be an easy way to do our Fleet Championship before we get into November. With a couple boats already stored at Sand Point, those nice new docks, and someone else doing race committee and setting marks this might be too good to pass up.
NOR is attached $55 entry fee 9/25-26 This Saturday and Sunday. Includes 2 lunches & snacks.
What do you think?

Octoberfest is coming up this weekend. In addition to the normal NWYRC fleets there is going to be a large V15 fleet with many HS teams coming. There will also be a large Opti fleet with multiple Canadians teams coming too.
Please send me an email telling me if you are coming and what you are sailing.
NOR is attached.
SYC Race Team will have a morning meeting at 9:30 before the skippers meeting. Be there to rig at least 30 minutes before this.
Optis at Tolands can get a boat ride to their boats after the skippers meeting and sail to the course directly from there.

Jim –
Thanks for putting this out there. It’s too bad that today’s weather isn’t sticking around for the weekend! It looks like it will be in the low 50’s and raining. We’ve got soccer on Saturday, but we might be able to pull it together on Sunday.
If we do, I’d really like to vote for Sail Sand Point. They’ve got the docks in now which makes launching a breeze. If Matt and you can make it on Sunday, I could make it happen. I’d drop a note to Ron and Nicole, and to Garrett and Steve on the off chance one or more wanted to go sailing one more time this year. J

Well – it seems that we maybe we won’t be able to pull this off. I checked with folks in Portland and Anacortes, but no one is able to mae it this weekend. My wife told me there is a forecast for 50 mph winds on Saturday night!
Jim –
Good idea… I think that next year we should look more at piggybacking on CYC events for Lido regattas.
Unfortunately, I will just be returning home from an overseas business trip on that Saturday, so it won’t work for me.
We may just have to keep our reigning Champ on the throne for another year! J

I like that idea! I'm definitely up for a single handed event - it's a lot easier to schedule, without working around Sarah's busy regatta schedule. And if someone has skipper and crew they could both sail as well (depending on wind conditions it could be a + or - ) but we'd be "allowed" to sail single handed and under the weight limit. I think we could get more boats out that way - And I'm all for that. When could you guys do a single handed regatta? Also we have Garrett's orange Lido already on Lake Sammamish with a crew available - so that's another idea - easy and could save on the ferry tolls. On dry suits - I was initially skeptical (they are so pricy) but once you try it you'll be a huge fan - it extends your sailing season and is a lot cheaper/less time consuming than flying south. I got my drysuit at the boat show for only $150 two years ago - I think from Adrenaline Watersports. They claimed it was a demo suit lightly used in wakeboarding demos. It was from OS systems - a fairly low end brand. But hey it works great. They had another in my size last year (I was going to get it as a back-up or for when others my size come over and want to wake board but the water's too cold) but I hesitated on buying it and someone got it first - I regret not stepping up. But we did get a spare in Sarah's/Brigid's size, which Sarah sometimes loans to her crews. Sarah's primary suit is from Helly Hansen - had to order from the UK - she puts a LOT of wear on it sailing 3-6 days a week. Having some issues with it but working on a line to get a new one and asking Helly Hansen to sponsor her to promote there gear. (We'll see if that pans out - could be a Lido Fleet discount opportunity)

Wow Jim – that sounds like a blast! I have to get a dry suit so I can play in these conditions!
Maybe we should have a Lido single-handed event??? It is tough during the school year with homework, sports, etc. to get my faithful crew out on the boat.
