LSYC,
I heard from Mike Abernathy that he's away this July 4th so we will need to plan a "Boom Bash" event for the 4th if it's going to happen.  This is typically the highlight of the Summer, as most folks enjoy the 4th on the lake - so if there is one event you do all year, this should be it.  Who's interested in participating?  Who can help?  Who has ideas - BBQ?  Parade?  Raft-up?  Music?  Swimming?  Games?  - I've got a potential location.

We need to know know if we can expect a good turn-out and participants to ensure this is an event worth sustaining and launching the big effort to make it happen and promote it over the next couple weeks.  I can't do this one alone.

John & other LSYCers
I've almost always got my phone on the powerboat (never know when you will have an engine issue) but rarely bring it with on the sailboat.  As things can get a little wet on the sailboat and when I'm singlehanding (or with my dog Jake as crew) it's hard to hold the tiller, the sheet and answer a call (with the phone a waterproof bag) - so I leave it home.

But if you see a sloop rig sailboat it's probably me.  Look for an L14 insignia and the racing number 4284 on the sail on a white hull yellow deck boat.  Motor on over to say hi.

If I'm not out, give a call and stop by the dock - a Finding the Yacht Club and making a visit can give you a "mission" when you are out cruising around.  We can talk about events for the Summer.  Give me a call when you plan to head out and I'll let you know if I'll probably be around.

Susan & John,

Glad to hear you both got out to enjoy the glorious weekend.

I'm in a black and white Cobalt 200 - the easiest to spot feature is the black fixed (non-bimini) sun shade on the stainless steel tower.  We are often towing a green & blue 3 person tube.  At LSYC events I try to fly the Burgee and a Blue Commodore's flag.  Come up and say hello if you see us.

In sailing mode look for me in a yellow 14' sloop named "Electric Schock" it has an L14 on the sail.  Or occaisionally in a Blue hul white deck Laser.

Our dock is the 3rd one South of Weowna Point (middle of the west side just south of bass cove & 1.4 miles north of Vasa Park).  It's marked on the map on the LSYC Yahoo Groups site.

I'll look for you in a red Sea Ray on the lake as well.

So what should we do for our next event?  Perhaps a "Fire & Ice" BBQ?  Or a Mid-lake party raft-up?  We need the water level to drop down a bit to host multiple boats at the "Yacht Club Docks", so perhaps the Mid-Lake Raft-up Party would be best for our next event.  This weekend's forecast is for Partly Sunny and 67F.  Who's available & interested in comming out?

Hi Susannah!

We, too, keep our boat at the Sammamish Beach Club apts.  Too bad we missed you on Sunday, we headed down to the races around 1:30 or so and stayed until around 5pm.

Here's hoping for a sunny weekend!

We ended up just tubing with the kids on Saturday—what a gorgeous day. The huge smiles on those kids’ faces was priceless!

On Sunday, Dave had to go into work, so the kids and I headed out through the chop down to the races. Once there, I kept drifting in and getting “in trouble” with the very nice Coast Guard guys. This is our “new to us” boat and the anchor was never used. So I thought I’d give it a try.  I found the rope was not long enough (if it was 50’ I’d be surprised)….so while I was fiddling with the anchor, I kept drifting, drifting…kind of tough when you are the only adult on board.

Anyway, we eventually moved far enough out and enjoyed a few races (the 4:30-5:00 races). Yup, I was that annoying newbie.

Coming back over the white caps was fun---hit a few doozies! And docking (we are renting a slip at the Sammamish Beach Club apartments) was quite a challenge. Right after we tied up, the wind completely died down…figures!

Till next time!

Susannah

It was a great day! I was able to get together with a friend of mine around 1:30 and launched at Vasa, which was much easier and less crowded than the Park would have been. Glad he was with me as I had slight electrical issues at start up! Then we headed up to the North end of the lake and picked up the ladies and headed out.

Unlike you sailors us power boaters were trying to run from the wind, so we went to every cove, bend, and lagoon in the lake trying to get away from the ever strengthening wind. By the time we were done at 6pm the wind was really cooking and we were down at the South end watching the big Hydro’s, what a show! You never get that close at Seafair! Although I think we weren’t supposed to be as close as we were, the wind blowing us the way it did. :p

Finally after getting tired of bouncing around out there, we made it through the white caps and after more than a few waves over the bow we made it back. All in all a great day on the lake! I cant wait for next weekend!

See you all out there!

Thanks!

Susannah, Dave, & John Juge.

Sorry we missed you guys.  We rafted up with Brian and Dana Saturday at the Hydro Races about 2-5:00 after a pretty full day of tubing.  We had the burgees up but not the banner (as the wind would have made it a sail) and anchors were dragging us into the race area.  If you had called Saturday I could have directed you to our position.

On Sunday we finally got off our Goose Getaway Season Opener with ideal wind (and sun) conditons.  We had Jeff, Marty, Chuck, and Paul (a new participant in a Walker Bay dinghy) - Jake was my crew in the Lido 14.  We got 2 full races in and a tuning practice.  We are tuning our handicap for the new boats and we all had a lot of fun.  Nice to see 5 sailboats on the lake together.  I didn't have my phone on the water in the sailboat so I missed John's call on Sunday.  Dana and Mike headed down to the Hydro races as I was putting my sailboat away ~ 2PM, but I was off to Snoqualmie to celebrate my aniversary.

If I had know you were comming earlier I could have connected you with Dana - but I didn't get your message on my phone till about 5 PM which I assumed was after it was too late.  Let me know if you are thinking of coming a little earlier (ideally Friday when I'm on email) and we can know to reach out to include everyone.

John did you get the boat in solo with the sunken docks?

I'm excited to report that my new neighbors Eric & Neil have a ~30' party barge that I'm hoping will be a key participant in future LSYC raft-ups, and quite the little waterfront Tiki Bar in a repurposed boat house.  I'm recruiting them as new members.

Great weekend on the lake - this will be an amazing Summer.

LSYC,

Who wants to join us at Tastin' n Racin' this weekend? http://www.tastinra/cin.com/

We should see some sun this evening for the free Admission happy hour - I'll try to stop by (on land) 7-8 PM to try the "Tastin' " part.

We'll be on the water tomorrow and try to do an LSYC raft up for the "Racin' " part.  Weather Saturday should be the best this year with 74F forecast.  The big boat "unlimited" hydroplane races are scheduled for 1:15 and 5:13 (Sat & Sun - see below) with lots of other racin' in between.  Dana, Brian, and Mike are planning to get out there - we'll coordinate schedule details as the day evolves.  If you'd like to come out in your boat or mine, let me know so we can look for you.  We probably won't stay out watching the race course the whole time - but may do some tubing/wakeboarding /waterskiing on another part of the lake.  If there is wind perhaps we can finally get in the Goose Getaway Season Opener Sailing Regatta  Call my cell phone to coordinate (425) 449-0070 and look for the LSYC burgees on the water.

Use extreme care with your wake around the race course, last year a racer's boat broke apart catastrophically when it hit a spectator boat's large wake.

PS:  Lake level is now 28.3'  and still rising - That's about 4" over my dock so I expect the state park ramps may be approaching a foot underwater - bring boots if you want to launch. :).
