Welcome to the Lidar Mapping group. The group is about the use of Lidar technology for accurate geographical mapping. To prevent the group becoming inundated with spam, you need to apply to join, but anybody can do that. You don't need to be a Lidar specialist.
Ads are allowed IF they are for products and services relevant to Lidar mapping.
Lidar mapping is now a well-established and robust technology, often using detectors attached to satellites or aircraft. There is a lot of government-sponsored Lidar mapping data available for free and it's used in forestry, agriculture, construction, archaeology and many other industries. As I write this (at the beginning of 2018) the field has become a lot more interesting because it's become possible to fit lightweight Lidar units to drones and produce very accurate maps of a local area. These devices are relatively cheap (low thousands of dollars) and getting steadily cheaper, leading to use by a much wider range of people.
Lidar is also used in driverless cars and robotics to detect and avoid objects at close range. This is a very interesting field, but it is NOT a topic for this group, which is focussed on geographical mapping.
