Chinaunable to access leading-edge wafer fab tools from American, European, and Japanese manufacturers, has to develop its own fab equipment. Huawei is building a giant research and development (R&D) center near Shanghai, where it plans to develop chipmaking tools that will have to be competitive with systems designed by ASML, Canon, and Nikon, reports Nikkei.

The R&D center will focus on developing lithography machines, which are essential for making chips on leading-edge nodes. For now, Huawei's partners SMIC and Hua Hong cannot get litho tools that allow them to make logic chips on 14nm/16nm FinFET-based process technologies and more advanced processes, but they can still obtain 28nm-capable lithography systems. Therefore, Huawei-developed machines will have to be at least 28nm, or better 14nm/16nm-capable. For now, ASML controls well over 90% of the lithography tools market.

The R&D center is strategically located in the Qingpu district of Shanghai, part of a larger campus that includes facilities for Huawei's chip design unit, HiSilicon T, as well as R&D centers for wireless technologies and smartphones. The total investment for this campus is estimated at 12 billion ($1.66 billion), covering an area equivalent to approximately 224 football fields. Once completed, it will have the capacity to accommodate over 35,000 employees.

To attract top talent, Huawei is offering competitive salary packages and has already hired engineers with experience in leading chip tool builders and chipmaker. Huawei (and other China-based companies) can no longer hire U.S. citizens and holders of U.S. green cards to lead its projects. Now that ASML, Applied Materials, KLA, and Lam Research have to cut down their presence in China, Huawei and other companies in the country can hire experienced talent with Chinese citizenship.

Before being added to the U.S. trade blacklist, Huawei primarily focused on chip design, collaborating with major contract chipmakers, such as TSMC and GlobalFoundries. However, following restrictions on access to American technologies, the company shifted its focus to working with China-based contract chipmaker SMIC, the report claims. Huawei is now reportedly venturing into chip production itself, partnering with entities backed by local governments in multiple Chinese cities, including Shenzhen, Qingdao, and Quanzhou, which essentially means that it pours money into fabs operated by Huawei and co-owned by local and federal governments. Additionally, Huawei has invested in numerous local providers of chip materials in a bid to use local suppliers and invest in domestic alternatives.

Huawei's integrated service for modernizing fixed networks spans the full network lifecycle with three core capabilities, powerful tool platforms, and customizable migration solutions. It accelerates broadband speeds, reduces TTM for new services, and lowers TCO.

Modernizing fixed networks involves cutting over a large number of ports and migrating service data. Legacy networks are structurally complex, network error rates during reconstruction are high, and cutover windows are always tight.

uNetBuilder is a network consulting and analysis tool that offers efficient data collection capabilities, experiential network evaluation and consulting, and characteristics analysis. Its one-click network report function provides the complete status of network resources and bottlenecks, while TCO and TVO analysis tools show pre- and post-reconstruction trends, which can be used to form investment recommendations.

GNEEC Cloud provides integration services for IP, microwave, optical, and fixed access networks. Its standardized processes streamline data and task flows, reduce data transfer and operating errors, and simplify the delivery process.

Huawei's on-demand planning service helps customers increase network competitiveness. The service uses intelligent site planning tools integrated on GNEEC Cloud, for example, tools for identifying unique value areas and smart site selection, so operators can reuse legacy networks and provide competitive bandwidth.

Value area identification is a scientific model analysis process that classifies low-, mid-, and high-value areas based on factors such as pipeline resources; user density; zone type, for example, commercial or residential; geographical location; and economic profile.

Target area data is analyzed, converted, and displayed on a Geographic Information System (GIS) map. One-click automatically outputs site selection maps, new site information, equipment configuration lists, and TCO and TVO estimates. Embedded knapsack algorithms carry out site planning based on achievable bandwidth, and ensure the accuracy, reliability, and cost optimization of suggested locations.

Huawei's one-stop cabinet satisfies more than 10 kinds of major customer requirements in a single cabinet, minimizing customization needs, leaving existing network services unaffected, and quickly expanding capacity.

Huawei's solution for modernizing fixed networks supports data conversion on more than 50 types of access equipment from more than ten manufacturers, enabling all old services to be migrated across zero-awareness cutover schemes like jumper wire duplexing. Simultaneous cutover takes place around-the-clock for data and port migration, slashing service downtime.

Huawei's solution for modernizing fixed networks helps operators assess their existing copper networks to maximize ROI, reduce errors during reconstruction, and boost delivery efficiency in different scenarios for different types of network users.

If you are a Huawei user and forget your Google account credentials, you may be locked out of your device for factory reset protection (FRP). Fortunately, there is a way to bypass Huawei FRP and regain access to the device.

Good day to all. I'm currently in the process of migrating virtual AD servers from VMware to Huawei FusionSphere. Huawei's Rainbow tool does not support migration of AD servers (does not support application-level migration). Is there another tool that can help accomplish this?

The two prerequisites to introducing the first 2019 domain controller are that domain functional level needs to be 2008 or higher and older sysvol FRS replication needs to have been migrated to DFSR

I'd use dcdiag / repadmin tools to verify health correcting all errors found before starting any operations. Then stand up the new 2019, patch it fully, license it, join existing domain, add active directory domain services, promote it also making it a GC (recommended), transfer FSMO roles over (optional), transfer pdc emulator role (optional), use dcdiag / repadmin tools to again verify health, when all is good you can decommission / demote old one.
