This happened Saturday night.
SEATTLE - A 33-year-old driver was arrested after he allegedly struck and killed a pedestrian in Seattle’s Interbay neighborhood Saturday night.
The Auburn Police Department released a statement Monday that the driver was an off-duty officer, and is on administrative leave while an internal investigation is conducted.
According to the Seattle Police Department (SPD), someone called 911 around 10:45 p.m. Saturday to report a motorist hit a pedestrian near the intersection of 15th Avenue West and Gilman Drive West. Responding officers found a man “down in the roadway.”
Seattle Fire Department medics responded to the scene and declared the man dead at the scene.
The SPD said detectives with the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad determined the 33-year-old driver of the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed on northbound 15th Avenue West. The driver passed another vehicle near Gilman Drive West before losing control of the car, driving onto the sidewalk and striking the pedestrian.
Police said the driver remained at the scene. Seattle police said the man was processed for DUI and booked into the King County Jail for investigation of vehicular homicide.
The identities of the suspect and the victim have not been disclosed.
