Two new development versions of LICSS are available from the
project site (versions 2.3 and 3.0). Both share the ability to visualise multiple columns of Smiles, improved SD File export and recoding of all batch routines operating 'per compound' to use the direct Java call system (makes them cleaner and faster, particularly for large numbers of compounds). Both versions do away with the need to enable individual worksheets and charts: as long as a workbook is LICSS-enabled, all worksheets with a Smiles columns marked and all associated charts are automatically enabled. The difference between the two versions is that, while version 2.3 uses the old system of copying code to enabled workbooks, version 3.0 is implemented as an Excel Add-In. This means that workbooks can be saved in 'Macro-free' versions (.xlsx) and there are no longer any security issues with Excel trust settings (as long as macros are enabled). Other advantages include the fact that workbooks don't need to be saved, closed and reopened to activate them and also (at least in my hands!) rather more robustness. Offsetting this is the fact that enabled workbooks won't self-install - the user needs to have the system installed and the Add-In loaded to use them.
