I've got it all the software to work after hitting all the security stuff Paul Gleeson noted and going onto Google and making all the same fixes I suspect.

Have struggled with the charts bit though since I have never used charts in excel before (used to use spotfire). At first I had a spread sheet with no chart and couldn't work it all out - where did the chartfile came from, how was it was linked etc.
Now I realize you make a chart in your sheet, then when you save the workbook. The dropdown box under charts will no longer be blank when you do the opening sequence (you save the data into the software sheet twice essentially as a sheet and a chart - using the two dropdowns).
Then it works fine

Can't leave without congratulating Keven et al on this and making it available. Absolutely brilliant.
I am processing data, trying to get a SDDI grant but haven't got an academic position yet so am completely dependent on freeware.

Thanks guys, this was sorely needed and is great service to the chemistry community. I have already recommended it to friends.
Also thanks to those people who have left useful posts (I promise to read them first next time (but I am not that tech-aware)

Hi Simon

Thanks for your kind comments about LICSS.  I have edited the main project website to make prominent the Excel security settings necessary for LICSS (and how to fix them).

I am very interested in your Excel charts comments.  In our company, we don't (as yet) have access to Spotfire, so Excel charts are the standard way of doing business.  Am I assuming too much Excel knowledge at the moment?  Is there something I should add to the help file?  Btw, for convenience I usually put Excel charts on separate chart sheets.  This used to be easy with older versions of Excel but, with Excel 2010, you have to first create the chart within the sheet then right-click on it and choose to 'Move' it...  Once moved, you can LICSS enable it as you describe.

Best wishes

Kevin

Hi Kevin

All AZ and most Novartis Pharma people will never have used charts in excel. Both use Spotfire templates where a data array is imported directly from excel and all the formatting done in the background. This is a very powerful system. The linking in Spotfire between separate pains on the same sheet is so good and intuitive it has made my excel a bit rusty. Some of the younger people my never even pick up that much excel.

What would have made my start with the LICSS system easier, would have been some sample data so that I can see the format required and have a bit of data to use where you know if its not working its not the data, its the way you are using it. Half a dozen SMILES and a chart in a downloadable excel sheet would have got me off to a good start.

The security update will save a lot of people heartache so that's good.

Simon
