I downloaded licq a few days ago to Kubuntu via the Muon Software Center.

Unfortunately, I typo'd my login number. Now, I cannot seem to change it. The only editable field seems to be that for the password.

I tried de-installing and reinstalling. It automatically added the "old", incorrect user ID.

I tried de-installing and purging licq using BOTH aptitude and apt-get --purge remove licq, then clean, and then re-installing. Same thing.

I am guessing that somehow the config files are still there and that is why it is reinstalling with the old username, but somehow they are not removed.

Is this an issue or is there some way to change the username in licq that I am somehow missing? Suggestions? Please help!

Yes. What you needs to do is to delete the account in the "Account
Manager" dialog and then add the account with the correct number.

Yes, your settings are stored under ~/.licq and are not removed when
purging the package (personal settings are never removed by the
package management system).

Hi Erik,

Thanks, that is very helpful. Also good to know that the personal settings are not removed. The explanation you gave me was perfect and I was able to change my username.

For some reason, I am not finding Licq very intuitive. Now, I cannot figure out how to display my buddy list; tried selecting different bullets under System > Group, but nothing shows my buddy list. I swear I am not a complete technology idiot; been on the net for about 10 years, started on irc.. but I somehow can't figure it out.

Please help, even if it will be embarrassing. :)

Thanks,

Dora

Glad it helped.

(Assuming you have successfully connected to the ICQ service.)

If you go to System > Help > Statistics can you see if the number of
users are > 0 (just to verify that the user list has been downloaded
from the server).

Are "Show offline users" and "Show empty groups" checked in the System menu?
