I downloaded the latest version of liclipse with the intention of doing some python development. It appeared to install appropriately but whenever I try to run the application I get a popup stating:

"To open LiClipse.app" you need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime"

I have no intention of rolling back to Java 6 on my machine and the liclipse homepage specifically states it is build to run with Java 7 so what gives?

Mike

ps: I did try to install intellij earlier and ran into that problem with them. Maybe something is left over from that install??

Hi Mike,

Unfortunately, I think this is really an issue on Mac which is not solvable directly by LiClipse: Mac detects that a java program is about to be executed and requests you to install the java it has available (which is java 6 right now) -- for which I can't really work-around, but if you do install java 6 as it requested, LiClipse later will happily ignore it and will end up using the java vm that came bundled with it...

You can however try some workarounds:

1. if you haven't done yet, try setting java 8 as the default java 8 for Mac (http://blog.hgomez.net/blog/2012/07/20/understanding-java-from-command-line-on-osx/)

Sadly, there's not much I can do from LiClipse itself (this is an issue on how Mac handles java) -- but it should indeed work if you do install java 6 as it'll happily ignore it afterwards :)

Best Regards,

Fabio

Reinstalling java from Apple (NOT from Oracle) removed this error. To make it even odder, the install didn't change the current version I was using of Java 7 (75). Go figure.

Thanks for your quick response.

I know this is old, but this problem was permanently solved for me by this answer on StackExchange:
