Our IT department recently installed LibStats on our server for us.
We're currently piloting it straight "out of the box," but looking to
make some changes to the fields in the future. I found the
instructions for adding fields/columns on the wiki portion of the
Google Code site, but we're looking more to remove fields/columns. I
haven't been able to find anything specifically on removing fields,
but I was kind of hoping it would be as simple as removing the
information, for the fields we want to get rid of, that we would be
adding if we wanted to add fields.

Has anyone had any experience with this or know where I might be able
to find some more information on it?

Hello Aimee,
I have done similar things before with no problem at all, but I am a beginner php developer, what about you?
Adding a field often more difficult than removing a field. A simplest way of removing a field is to comment out the code you do not want. Adding a field often require adding a database field as well.
If you are not a programmer, it may take you some time to learn.
Dung.

What field are you planning on removing?

I'm also a very beginner php developer.

I'm hoping to remove the patron type, initials and possibly time spent
fields. We're still working on finalizing what we want to keep track
of, but for now we're sure we want to get rid of the patron type and
initials fields.

We don't mind if the php files for those fields still exists on the
server so we can add the fields back in at a later date if need be, in
fact that would probably be our preferred method. We're just trying to
remove them from add question display and the table that our
librarians use to search for questions.

Aimee, I think your original idea should work - just do the usual as others have mentioned -  make copies before you modify files; comment out rather than delete.

I've added fields and the instructions were quite good on the wiki.  Hopefully you have the same version as what they have, but that probably wouldn't affect this.

You could experiment and post your questions here and results on the wiki, so others can benefit.
