Sunday Community Open House at the Yiddish Book Center (on the Hampshire College campus, Amherst, Massachusetts), a day of free public events for the whole family that is not to be missed.
The schedule includes:
11 a.m. | Gallery Talk: Reimagined: 45 Years of My Jewish Art, with Mark Podwal
Artist Mark Podwal, whose work is on exhibit at the Center, will talk about his monograph Reimagined: 45 Years of My Jewish Art. Known for his drawings on the New York Times op-ed page, he’s also the author and illustrator of numerous books and his work is represented in museum collections worldwide.
11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. | Yiddish Print Shop Demonstration
Stop by our Yiddish print shop exhibit to have your name printed in Yiddish.
11:45 a.m. | Tour the World's First Yiddish Museum (45 minutes)
Take a free guided tour of our permanent and visiting exhibits.
1 p.m. | Welcome and Update, with Aaron Lansky
Founder and President Aaron Lansky will share the latest news from the Center.
2 p.m. | The Sarah Rose Lazarus Family Concert: The Yiddishkeit Klezmer Ensemble
The Yiddishkeit Klezmer Ensemble, based in the Pioneer Valley and led by multi-instrumentalist Brian Bender, performs traditional and original freylekhs, bulgars, horas, terkishers, and Yiddish songs for dancing and listening.
ALL DAY | Exhibit Openings:
Kaddish for Dąbrowa Białostocka
Mark Podwal’s series of imaginative, colorful prints incorporate Jewish religious iconography and ritual objects with images from Yiddish folk culture and Jewish history.
The Jewish Ghetto in Postcards
The Jewish Ghetto in Postcards, from the Blavatnik Archive Foundation, showcases original postcards that depict “the Jewish ghetto” in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
Just announced: Yosi Kosher Catering will be selling falafel and other fresh Mediterranean foods at the Yiddish Book Center between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., so stick around for lunch.
