Pop-under pain

So, here's something I noticed with the pop-under windows: they're much easier to miss than the old way -- if (pleasantly) less disruptive. I made the mistake of resizing a chat window to be somewhat larger tonight, without moving it from its starting position. When I closed it, I realized that my poor colleague had picked up the eight or ten chats that I'd missed while working on the first chat. Luckily I wasn't on solo, and of course I thought all the background pinging I heard was just coming from my colleague's computer.

I wonder if there's some kind of happy medium of disruption between pop-up and pop-under; or if the pop-under positioning could be made smart enough to ensure some minimum visibility?

Hi Dre,

Good thoughts, and thanks for the feedback!  We'll see if we can improve the window placement.  That's do-able.

Also, a couple of folks prefer the new windows to come to the top. So ideally, we'd like new-chat-on-top vs. new-chat-underneath to be a user configurable option.  It turns out that we need some software infrastructure in place first before we can accomplish providing it as an option. However, we do have plans to tackle that infrastructure and it's in our development tracker.

Very best,

Pam

Hi Pam, Hi all,

our librarians are on the "new window on top" side of this discussion. We usually have only one person for chat service and they have missed chats sevaral times because they popped up underneath an ongoing conversation. So Dre's solution or making it an option would be both great!

All the best,

Kerstin
