I've only just come across this -- forgive me if this topic has arisen
on this listserv before now.

We all understand the value of games (or we probably wouldn't be on
this board), and we know there is a lot of solid academic research to
back us up. But we still get the hairy eyeball, at times, from people
wondering what the heck we're doing, and we have to back up and
explain that we're not creating murderous or satanic mouse potatoes
who will squat forever in their parents' basements and never date.

Gamers can be social activists. They can change people's minds about
who gamers are. And they can make a real difference, a positive
difference, in the lives of others. This is a story to share.

Child's Play is my charity of choice come Holiday Season. I love what Tycho and Gabe (Jerry and Mike) have started. It is amazing to watch it grow every year and it is amazing what gamers can do when they put their heads together.
