Hello!
I'm currently putting together a grant proposal to the IMLS to create a toolkit (working with folks at MIT) to make it easy for libraries to create an alternate reality game. This game would be facilitated either by the computer or by paper, so once the game is created, there is minimal staff time involved.
Our goal is to make it easy to customize the ARG to your library, so that you will just need to bring your library's resources, search challenges, and answers, and plug those into a Web site, and then the toolkit will generate an ARG for you to use. The idea is to replace the library's traditional orientation tour/activity with a self-paced game.
I'm writing the grant, and want to present to the funders a slate of libraries of all types - public, school, academic, and special - willing to try this ARG twice in their libraries with a small group of patrons.
Your commitment would be:
- Providing a list of resources, people, and places you would want to include, along with the question you would ask patrons to solve using each and the possible answers (so that when we create the toolkit, we can make sure it will accommodate you).
- Testing the toolkit in late 2012 and providing feedback
- Testing the toolkit again in 2013 and providing feedback.
If you are willing to participate, there is a letter of commitment that I would need from your library, so that I can pass these letters on to IMLS with the grant proposal later this month.
Thanks!
Scott
