I hope you all have had a happy New Year today. I have been holding out on sending out this message until it became definitive. After the last update I got roughly 10 min ago I feel it's certain I can let y'all in of what's happening.
Saturday night between 5-7 pm my fire chief, Michael O'Connor, started having a massive headache. It became so severe that his wife drove him to Brookwood's ER. When they got to the ER he was unable to get out of his car. He was rushed into a room, and he began to crash. He ended up being sent to SICU where he has been since. The report is is that he had an aneurysm in his brain. I saw him today. He is on a ventilator, and needless to say he did not look good. If he does make through this night then 2 more physicians will gather to confirm the diagnosis off no brain activity and that will be the end of it.
I'm bringing this to y'all's attention so y'all can be praying. Obviously be praying for his wife and family, but also please for the department in how we move forward through this time, and for our new fire chief.

Around 1pm the doctors officially made a diagnosis of no activity in Chief O'Connor's brain. The Alabama Organ Center has begun the process of harvesting his organs. The time of death has not been officially called, but at this point it's pretty much done.

We are so sorry for your loss and the many other folks who will be affected by his death. I'm glad he is able to help several people through his organ donation. Praying for you and your coworkers!
