Not every one is mentally competent to be totally trusted with a fire arm.

The 2nd amendment was from a time when people used fire arms on a weekly if
not daily bases.

They seen if you use it badly, this is the end result, yes? But many had
reasons to have one around and not just as a sort of show piece.

The US was BROKE in 1780, after the revolution it owned massive debts to
France and others. Also many of the colonies barely liked/trust each other,
let alone want to work together for a national army/navy/etc, as well as
past abuses by the British to include hiring mercenaries for their colonies,
not all were Hessians but most were from the Kings cousins in Germany (Area
not the nation). George III was the first to grow up speaking English, not
German. And the ability to react to a crisis on the frontier and even the
cities would have taken days to weeks or more to deal with and things that
would be long over and not all that pretty by the time said Army got to the
crisis seen and then might find themselves in front of a hostile local
citizenry. Many in the colonies were there to escape from the abuses by the
crown back in Britain, from not being part of the official Church, or having
lands that the Kings cronies wanted, or being on the wrong side of the wars
of succession between the Stuarts and "invading" Hanoverians. But just cause
they had all/most had suffered from the abuses did not mean they felt
unified totally, but wanted to be left alone and not having a strong central
government telling them how to be and why and all.

But back to the original comment, we assume allot that all 18+ male/females
in the US are safe with a gun around and using it. Known soldiers I served
with that I barely trusted them with a firearm, let alone civilians.. Our
pop culture and like has not helped much, be it cowboy westerns to gangsta
rap and like, cops shows and more..

I would love to see a revival of the 1980s show "Kung Fu" he was able to use
his words, patience and if needed his martial arts to solve things and most
ended well, but not some one dead.

Why it's the 2nd and not the first, because hopefully people will use their
powers of speech and be able to work things out before it comes to blows and
then guns..

I think they need to do more teaching of logic and debate and like in
schools. But if people wish people to be gun carrying, then classes in how
to use one and respect it and not think it's a toy or the end of short
argument. Yes, violence is always a possibility but hopefully it's the
threat, and only expressed after a long line of diplomacy? I forget who said
it the best?

Yes the powers of the central government in England used them as well. A
people should not fear their government but a government should not fear its
people? Respect yet but not fear.

So maybe we should get more involved and give it reasons to respect us and
not fear us?

As seen by recent police actions in LA, where 8 police officers shot at a
woman and her mothers car, and it took them 103 rounds to take the car down
and have them stop, with minor wounds, but then recently in a town near by,
the police was raping drunk women they had arrested for being drunk in a
bar?

I know this has changed my view on things, from "Its a matter of time before
we have another LA riot or like" to :You mean it has not started yet? And
with the recent past, with gangs getting members into the US Military so
they can train their fellow gansters in how to be "Real soldiers" and not
just hoods, and the Police now having armored vehicles and like, the next LA
Riots are going to be not a riot but out right civil war. I hope not!
