Thanks to the advocacy efforts of members like you, Equality Now has achieved some remarkable victories for women around the world this past year. We invite you to watch a brief message from Meryl Streep, Equality Now’s Advisory Board member, and hope that you will donate today to advance our crucial work.
Just this past October, your urgent calls for action resulted in the release from jail of long-time partner Dr. Isatou Touray, who was detained in prison with her colleague Amie Bojang-Sissoho, reportedly for her work to end female genital mutilation in The Gambia. While her trial is still in process, Isatou is undeterred and Equality Now will continue to support brave activists like her in their quest to end violence against women and girls.
After 15 years of determined advocacy to end sex discriminatory laws, we achieved a stunning victory on October 1 when the United Nations Human Rights Council created a new mechanism that will accelerate the repeal of such laws. Many of you have campaigned tirelessly with us on this issue since 1995 when the Beijing Platform for Action was first adopted. We could not have achieved this groundbreaking initiative without your support.
We still have a steep battle ahead and must build on our hard-won victories until we see an end to all forms of violence and discrimination against women and girls everywhere. Whether you are helping us to end discrimination in law, sexual violence, female genital mutilation or trafficking, every action you take and every contribution you make means a brighter future for women and girls, so please give generously.
