Update!
31 May 2011: Saudi women’s rights activist Manal al-Sherif has been released by Saudi authorities on 30 May 2011 after nine days in custody. While this is a positive development, the Fatwa prohibiting women from driving automobiles and thereby limiting their freedom of movement has still not been repealed and women are not allowed to drive in Saudi Arabia. Thank you to everyone who signed the petition!! Please continue to call on the Saudi government to repeal this Fatwa, which prohibits women from driving automobiles and violates their rights under international law.
