Help Us Grow!
Dear Lilith,
Many women—and a lot of men, too—ask me what they can do to help fight crimes against the female half of the world. From child marriage to sex trafficking, from forced illiteracy to mass rapes, we read stories that break our hearts.
Though I have the gift of spending most of my time working in this social justice movement of and for women, I share your feeling of frustration. I can't possibly be in all those different places of great need and deep injustice; an injustice sometimes imbedded in the laws themselves.
That's why I became first a supporter, then an advisor, and now a board member of Equality Now. Over these recent years, I've witnessed its offices on three continents, and its gift for fast and flexible action, innovative strategies and most of all, its understanding that women on the ground know best what's needed on the ground. By supporting Equality Now and becoming part of its Women's Action Network, I am on the ground with them. And I am also contributing to the support or media exposure or legal change or national and United Nations' policy change they need.
For our 20th anniversary in 2012, we are ready to grow! For our first online membership drive, our goal is to increase global membership in the Network by 20,000 new members by the end of the year. We've divided up this task in easy bites. As a member, all you have to do is enlist five more people who care.

Also I'm pleased to announce our newly designed website. Now you can easily access information about our crucial work, advocacy tools and resources. You can take action on our current campaigns. You can find and share information in English, Spanish, French and Arabic.
The successes of Equality Now are a testament to the power of combined caring -- and now we are ready to expand. I hope you will help widen the reach of the Women's Action Network. From now on when you read about painful problems, you will know you are part of a growing solution.
