Subject: drc-sim and Wii U WPA2 problems
To: <del...@gmail.com>

Hey, my name is Julien Eid, I'm a student over at the Rochester Institute of Technology and I am working on libdrc for one of my personal projects. I've been messing around with lots of the tools associated with libdrc recently and I wanted to ask you a few questions.

I want to use drc-sim to emulate the gamepad to the Wii U but I'm running into a few quandaries with the wireless auth on the Wii U. Following http://libdrc.org/docs/network.html#pairing-the-wii-u-gamepad-with-a-computer I successfully get WPS-SUCCESS while trying to sync to the gamepad but I then get an EAPOL issue. I have the PSK of my Wii U and have verified it is the correct PSK by using drc-cap and I successfully intercepted frames between the gamepad and console. After I get the EAPOL problem, my Wii U says it has been successfully paired, but I cannot auth to the Wii U. I then tried to use my PSK with wpa-supplicant to try to authenticate to the Wii U, but I'm unable to authenticate.

I've poured over all of the documentation and even stared really hard at the drc-sim video. I noticed in the video that your wpa-supplicant authenticates to SSID WiiUmacaddress, not WiiUmacaddress_STA1 or the 0 byte SSID. I can't tell how you got the Wii U to have a visible SSID without being in sync, or how you got wpa_supplicant to authenticate. After I paired with the Wii U and then wpa_supplicant flipped out, I ran monitor mode and got a pcap of what's happening. The Wii U is broadcasting frames with my desktops wifi adapter mac address, and the Wii U has a 0 byte SSID.

It would be really helpful to me if you could give me your wpa_supplicant.conf that you use, as well as just an order of operations of how you took the PSK and then authenticated with the Wii U.

Oh, I'm also very interested in contributing back to libdrc. I packaged and ported drc-cap to OS X using brew and am starting to package libdrc for Fedora and Ubuntu. I was wondering what repo would be the best place for all of that?

Thanks for reading this, I would love to get this working and start hacking away at it to get it better.

Thank you,
J
