The purpose of this program is to provide safe and sanitary housing conditions for the residents of Newton by establishing minimum standards and regular inspections for all rental housing units in Newton. Full details of the program are available in the Rental Housing Inspection Program Administrative Policy.
Tenants are able to submit a Rental Housing Complaint Form. Only current tenants of a rental property or unit(s) may file complaints of violation regarding a rental housing property. If the complaint is regarding an item not covered by the Rental Housing Inspection Program, the tenant shall be informed of such and no further action shall be taken. However, if a complaint is indeed within the purview of this program, a rental inspection notice shall be sent to the owner within seven (7) business days of the complaint.
Facility Rental Form
The Newton Recreation Commission has a number of facilities available for public rental. Our Gymnasium, Meeting Rooms, Park Shelters, Swimming Pools and Athletic Fields are available for all your rental needs.
It is a simple process. Reservation forms are available at the Newton Activity Center during business hours, Monday through Friday. If the facility you wish to rent is available on the requested date and time, simply fill out the Facility Request form, pay the required deposit and the rental amount. The reservation goes into the computer and the facility is reserved for you and your event.
Several of our facilities require a damage/cleaning deposit which is separate from the rental amount. To insure the return of your entire deposit, please make sure that the facility is left clean and undamaged.
The Municipal Pool is located in Athletic Park and was recently renovated adding some wonderful amenities for summer fun. With a capacity of 275 the Municipal Pool has some wonderful new attractions such as a rock climbing wall and a new slide! Other additions include a zero entry for the little ones complete with a new family slide, a lazy river and a basketball goal! Not only was the pool renovated so were the locker rooms, complete with new benches and showers. If you get hungry don't forget to visit our concessions stand for some great choices. The pool is available to rent for family gatherings, birthday parties and social events. Looking for some summer fun? Come visit us at the Municipal Pool!
The Newton Recreation Commission has soccer, softball and baseball fields available. Each of these fields can be rented beginning January 2 of each year and can be rented for practices, leagues and tournaments. Fields can be rented seven days a week, at any time of day, providing there are no NRC activities scheduled at that location. Any teams participating in NRC leagues are allowed to reserve fields for practices at no charge.
Soccer fields are located in Centennial Park and the number of fields available is dependent on the size needed. Fields are not lighted and there are no scoreboards. Restrooms are located in the park and a concession stand is also available.
The Newton Recreation Commission offers 2 park shelters for rental. Both shelters have a capacity of 25 people, tables, electrical outlets, restrooms near and a fireplace. Reservations can be made beginning Easter weekend and running through the weekend before Halloween.
The Gymnasium in the Newton Activity Center houses 3 courts, marked for basketball, volleyball, pickleball and tennis. A walking track frames the courts and during the months of February through April, the courts are converted into an indoor soccer field (not available to rent).
The gym floor is synthetic rubber and curtains can be lowered to separate each court. Each court has an electronic scoreboard and bleachers. The size of the gym lends itself to not only sports events but to dances, lock-ins and art shows. Any teams participating in NRC leagues are allowed to reserve courts for practice at no charge, during designated times.
