When I first visited Yu & Me Books, it was the beginning of December, and this bookstore became that escape. Located in Chinatown in lower Manhattan, it is one of a few bookstores within the area but is the first Asian American woman-owned bookstore in the city. The walk from the Canal Street station was cold, and you could still see the remnants of snow that fell just a few days before. The buildings tower over you, looking gray and brown in the cold air, but once I got closer to Chinatown, a red banner stood out amidst the concrete. The bookstore sits between local businesses and dim sum restaurants and faces Columbus Park, where residents of the neighborhood bring their kids, play board games, and relax.
One visit to the Yu & Me Books, and you can tell Yu loves books and providing them for people. Even though it might seem like a small little enclave in the middle of a sprawling city, the atmosphere and cultural recognition give the sense that this little bookstore is somehow timeless. As I pulled myself away from the bookshelves and walked up to the counter, I could tell this place was different from the many other independent bookstores that try to make it in New York City.

Of course, nothing is more temporary than a paradise. Soon the landlord found out, the bookstore closed, only to reopen later in his home. I kept telling myself I would go back, but I was too busy with work, or some other bad excuse, and I never did. Stupidly, I thought I had forever.

Loved this scorching hot read with Lourde and Barrett Black one very sexy dirty talking bad boy. Story was great, loved their little arrangement that has now backfired, it had to their chemistry was burning them up as well as Lourdes unfortunate sunburn. Loved the characters in this book total 10/10 thoroughly enjoyed it.
This was the first I've read from this author and it certainly will not be the last. I love a good brother's best friend trope and this one did not disappoint.Lourde is stuck living the life of a debutante. Her family is putting enormous pressure on her to marry a man that will not dirty the family name. Her mother in particular has repeatedly tried setting her up with "nice" men but all have ended in heartbreaking fashion. Her brother Connor has a best friend named Barrett that she has always had a crush on. However with an 8 year age gap, she knows nothing can happen. Everything changes when Lourde's heart gets broken, yet again, and circumstances lead to her living with Barrett temporarily.Full of chemistry and sexual tension, Lourde decides she's had enough of being the good girl and decides to go after what she wants...and that's Barrett.Barrett has a very dark secret that he has hidden from everybody. He does not feel that he is worthy of love and believes that Lourde is too good for him. A better man would stay away...too bad he's not a better man. This was a tremendous novel filled with angst, laughs, sadness, and LOTS of steam! It ends with a Happy for Now so I am anxiously awaiting the next book to see how Lourde and Barrett's story plays out!!
I took this book to review and let me tell you!! Barrett is smoldering and can burn you in an amazing way. The way he struggles with controlling himself but in the end can't stop himself from falling. I love Lourdes smart and sassy mouth. She keeps Barrett on his toes and never backs down. I can't wait to start the second book and see how their story continues to unfold.
From the first sentence I was captured. The connection between Lourde and Barrett is.... inspiring to say the least. The push and pull holds you captive and has you rooting for their relationship. It takes you back to your first crush. I am hooked and cannot wait for the next book.
This was an arc read! Release day is today!I keep saying, if I did not have finals I would have devoured this in a day or two. Every time Started reading more about Rosie and Vincent I could not stop. She is an intern during the day and a lingerie waitress at night. To the guest in the VC, she seems like she knows what she's doing but she is a virgin outside of work. The story is great, I would say it is a bit of a slow burn but since the tension throughout the book is so high it turns into a fast burn really quickly. He has a past and wants vengeance but by needing vengeance for all of his life, he forgets that something else could bring him peace and happiness. Go get your hand on a copy today! ?
Let me first start off by saying that I am obsessed with the names Lourde and Barrett. So when I first started this series - I knew that I would fall in love pretty quickly and that the names would make it hard for me to dislike this story. This a brother's best friend story and it picks up where Book 1 ended. Through out this book you see these two fight against everything they know and everything they love to hopefully find their way back. I was absolutely entranced by this story! Can't wait for the next book!
Billionaire. Age gap. Forbidden. Best friend's younger sister. Forbidden Lust hits the mark of all of these tropes and then more with lots of steam and hot scenes.Lourde Diamond is a Manhattan princess. Born into money, she knows what her family expects from her. While only 23, she is ready to assume the role of proper girlfriend and eventually wife in a union that will benefit her family media empire. Her life has always been planned, and she is ok with it. But when Lourde discovers her handpicked boyfriend is drunk and sleeping with another woman while in the Hamptons, she is ready to throw caution to the wind, enjoy the summer and behave as any other 23-year-old would.Barrett Black is Lourde's oldest brother's best friend. He built his construction empire while coming from nothing and now is one of the most seek-out bachelors in Manhattan. Barrett doesn't do relationships, yet he has been attracted to Lourde for years. Yet, his loyalty to his best friend and the 8-year age gap with Lourde have always kept him from acting on his desire. Until the Diamond princess needs a place to stay in the Hamptons. What I loved the most about Barrett and Lourde was their connection. They reveal to each other parts of themselves that they have never had the courage nor the intention to tell others. They just click, and their attraction is so, so hot.Missy Walker definitely keeps raising the bad with each book she writes. And while Forbidden Lust offers a subtle HFN, I'm incredibly intrigued about what is yet to come.
Such a great continuing from the last book, such amazing character developments and well timed complications with fitting resolutions with so much spice!!. I thoroughly enjoyed the series so far and excited to continue on to the next.
Thank you for joining us at the 2024 annual Books That Changed My Life Festival. We are grateful to our generous sponsors, partners, and passionate community for their support. We look forward to seeing you at our next festival in January 2025.
The second annual Books That Changed My Life Festival returns in 2024 to celebrate the transformative power of books. This two-month celebration of literature and culture showcases events inspired by beloved literary works, including author conversations, workshops, storytime, a gallery exhibit, musical performances, theater, film events, and more. Hosted by the JCC's Lambert Center for Arts + Ideas, this festival is a testament to the power of storytelling and the enduring impact of words.
The Books That Changed My Life Festival is made possible thanks to the generosity of The Harold Anfang Foundation, the Upper West Side Shilchut of The Jewish Agency for Israel, UJA-Federation of New York, and the Israel Office of Cultural Affairs at the Consulate General of Israel.
Gallery exhibits and programs are made possible with the generous support of the Laurie M. Tisch Illumination Fund. Additional support is provided by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council and the generosity of individual donors.
The traditional side: Books are rigorously edited and professionally designed by an expert team. Titles are returnable via a major wholesale distributor (Ingram), meaning brick and mortar stores are more apt to stock those books. Authors enjoy the prestige of working with a NYC publishing house and receive full-service support.
The twist: Instead of promising our authors the moon and under-delivering, we stand by our services and GUARANTEE that the books of the authors we select for our proprietary author program will land on an Amazon Best Seller list and also garner media placements on major news outlets such as NBC, CBS, and Fox.
We offer important pre-production services such as professional editorial, custom book design, illustration, ISBN assignment, book title consulting, keyword research, market research, pricing and genre consulting, back cover copy creation and polishing, editorial review submissions, etc.
