There are some variations from the live tests, including the timer, highlighting, and notes functions performing differently.
It uses the same IELTS multi-layered security processes in pre-test, test day and post-test operations. Recognising organisations will use the same online verification system as the one used to verify in-centre results.
IELTS Online runs on the Inspera Exam Portal. After booking your test, you will also be emailed a link to download the portal. We recommend you do this at least one day before your test to carry out pre-test system checks.
This must be taken in between tests, e.g. between the end of the Listening test and the start of the Reading test.

IELTS Online is the same test as the IELTS on paper or IELTS on computer Academic test taken in a test centre. It assesses your English-language proficiency across four key skills: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. The Speaking test is conducted one-to-one with an accredited IELTS examiner, via a live video call.
Speaking test sessions are about 15 minutes and are available Monday to Friday. The Written test covers Listening, Reading and Writing, and is 2.5 hours long. Written test sessions are available Tuesday to Saturday. Your Speaking Test must be completed at least a day before your Written test.
You will need a quiet, private, well-lit room, a secure internet connection, and a laptop or desktop computer with the right hardware and software installed. Your microphone and web camera must be on for the whole test.
IELTS Online uses human and artificial intelligence (AI) proctoring to supervise your test. Your remote proctor is an IELTS invigilator who will monitor your Listening, Reading, and Writing tests online, just as they would if you took your test in a test centre. Having remote proctors ensures IELTS Online maintains the high security standards set by IELTS and trusted by recognising organisations around the world.

You can do your IELTS registration in Pakistan at one of our official test centres. You can also choose to do IELTS on paper or IELTS on a computer. All you need is a valid identification document and a bank card, if you want to pay online.
Important Note: To ensure the safety of the students and venue staff, and in accordance with the Government of Pakistan guidelines, it is mandatory for all candidates (ages 12+) to bring their Covid-19 vaccination certificates/cards to exam venues or show vaccination confirmation on SMS on the day of the exam. Candidates who are unable to provide proof of vaccination will not be allowed to give their exam and may apply for a Test Date Transfer or Refund.

4. After you pay for your IELTS test, if there's a seat available on your chosen test date, within 3 days you will get an email confirming your registration date. If there is no seat available on your chosen test dates, you will be moved to your next preferred date or the soonest available date.

All IELTS fee payments should be received by the British Council within 3 days from your registration and 3 days before your first exam (IELTS Speaking or main exam, whichever comes earliest). The British Council working days in Pakistan are Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
If you need to take an IELTS Academic test, you can take it from the comfort of your home or any private location with a stable internet connection. The test format and timings are exactly the same as an Academic test taken at a test centre, your Speaking Test will take place with a trained IELTS examiner via video call.
