Iactually saw this trailer a couple months ago when 20th Century Fox invited some journalists to see their CinemaCon footage. It was preceded by a wonderful and nostalgia-tugging "best of Tim Burton" sizzle reel. The lovely clip was scored to "Pure Imagination" from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, which of course is not a Tim Burton film. That's ironic and fitting, since many of Tim Burton's films, nay nearly all of Tim Burton's films since the Henry Selick-directed The Nightmare Before Christmas, have been adaptations of someone else's work. And such is the case with Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. This trailer is basically an expanded version of the earlier teaser from back in March, and it is so complete that I imagine it's the last trailer we will see unless there is a "special effects sizzle reel" teaser closer to the September 30th release date.

This one was supposed to come out on Christmas, and I am trying not to make too much of its date shift beyond Fox really wanting Assassin's Creed to break out and believing that this fantasy adaptation could be a hit anytime. Sadly September is an incredibly crowded weekend, with Lionsgate's Deepwater Horizon, STX's The Edge of Seventeen, and Relativity's much-delayed Masterminds. But then September is always the time when I start begging for daytime screenings so I'm not away from my kids every night for the last four months of the year.

The good news is that this is one press screening that I can bring my daughter to (maybe my son, I'll ask around when the time comes). I am currently debating whether or not to read the first Ransom Riggs novel with said daughter and/or son before the film comes out. Should I be versed in the source material, or should I walk into the theater with no prior opinions beyond the hope that Tim Burton has followed up the terrific Big Eyes with a solid fantasy entry?

I will be honest, the film looks "fine," basically playing like a cross between X-Men and one of those lower-profile "young man discovers that he's the special" fantasy movies (think Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant) that came and died in the wake of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. If this didn't have Tim Burton's name attached, it would barely be on my radar. But it is and thus it is.

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, starring Eva Green, Asa Butterfield, Ella Purnell, Allison Janney, Terence Stamp, Rupert Everett, Judi Dench, and Samuel L. Jackson, opens September 30th. As always, we'll see.

really sorry to hear of your experiences. i just discovered this show on netflix in the last year or so and can honestly say i prefer the early seasons when ALL of the original cast was together (including Cory and Trevor). Apparently, like in All else, TPB is governed by the mighty dollar and apparently doesnt mind sacrificing quality acting talent in the process.

I read that he was coming back but he doesn't seem to have come back, Cory did in the end. I haven't watched the last few seasons as they got less and less funny. Also seeing them all get fat was a bit depressing.

And the drunk and on drugs fun time hour or whatever it was called was abysmal. I don't think I even finished the episode,

Hi,

I just recently got turned onto TPB, and I love it. Cory and Trevor are great and once I get passed season 6 I am sure you will be missed. Although I appreciate the time it took you to write all of this, and I am sorry that you had such a negative experience in your young life/career. I am disappointed that you come off as not being appreciative at all for the opportunity. There are kids your age that would welcome the chance to make any type of money, let alone the notoriety. Remember, every chance is an opportunity. Count your blessings love, and good luck in all you do.

all that hate and Swearing you decided to write above..... you're definitely American, I just hope that that isnt the extent of your vocabulary because their is no reason to be talking like some high school bully.....

Registered just to make a comment to this. This honestly explains all the way i felt about trailer park boys while watching it. The first three seasons were great. I remember watching it when it first aired on showcase and I was way too young, but I knew people like the people in that show. It felt real. The trailer park boys is the only show i felt became so cartoonish it became a literal cartoon. It sucks reading about the way the cast and crew was treated on the show. I never knew why Cory and Trevor left the show, I'd stopped watching it a while before then but i remember reading about it when it happened. It's really too bad what happened to the show. I remember the first few seasons being amazing. I hadn't really seen anything like it at the time and it portrayed greasy lower class Canadian life really well. But the quality died fairly quickly. At least I know why now. I always kinda wondered what the hell happened.

E3 2016 scheduling last night ended up a bit like old school Strictly Come Dancing vs The X Factor where the end of one would overlap the other and you'd either have to choose or become hideously confused via the medium of a second screen and flicking between the audio. Last night I caught sight of the colourful new Mages Of Mystralia [official site] trailer at the PC Gaming show on one screen while Aisha Tyler was explaining Ubisoft to me on the other.

I'd managed to miss the game until now so in case you're in the same boat, the story is being written by Ed Greenwood (creator of Forgotten Realms). The main character is Zia, a girl who has been exiled due to her magical abilities. The game is about her meeting up with other exiled mages and finding runes. The runes are, I think, what you use in order to craft your own magical spells which you can then use in the game.

The trailer tells you you are to reclaim your rightful heritage which is a pretty basic videogames-y commandment so I'll wait and see what the story has to offer once there's something playable before I get too invested on that front.

I feel like that's a crafting system I can get excited about for once, though. I also really love the cel-shaded artwork. (John also felt optimistic about it earlier in the year based on the reveal trailer.)
