Ireceived a Sony amplifier/receiver from a friend, but I didn't get the remote control for it.

I really need the remote as there are some important functions that I can't access without it. So I dedided to replace the remote with an Arduino+IR LED.

So far so good, I had some progress.

Using the IRRemote library I can test with the example sketch IRsendDemo. It uses the Sony protocol that is explained here:

Now, since this is so time consuming finding (calculating) the right codes to get me into the menu, I decided it's best if I manage to input the codes in HEX format from the console, and then the Arduino would send them via the IR LED.

Anyway, this should be a great tutorial on how to replace your lost remotes! Sadly I can't even borrow one to "steal" the codes but there's a few lists with the most common functions, and anyway I can test for codes. But putting one in the sketch, then uploading it every time I test a code is time consuming. Would be great to input the codes from the console.

Also it would be useful to input the code in binary as well (I think it's more recommended actually in this testing phase).

Later on, I might get a keypad and make a more permanent setup but I only really need to adjust a few settings regarding the output levels on each speaker etc. I can move my ass and manually adjust the volume, but no way I can access those configuration items without a remote (I've checked).

So, any ideas on how to read bytes from the console and send them to the IR LED?

Now, I have used the older AV1 format for my tests, but it seems these are AV2 format in 15bits.

So I prefer to use this format so I can make use of all these codes. The whole remote control is mapped, so I only need to use the codes to browse the menus.

Now, I need a way to input the codes from console, as the menu has a time-out usually and it's a pain to navigate up/down and make settings with having to upload each time I change a code.

Keep trying to program the blu-ray player and it keeps putting the Sony TV on the av1 setting. I need a code for the blu-ray so it goes in and not the Sony TV KDL46EX621. I have had more problems setting the your remotes than the Dish remotes. What is the deal? I have had Directv less than a month and not very happy so far!

We have a Sony Bravia television, which I am unable to program to use with the remote control. To turn on this TV, I first use the FIOS remote to turn on the cable box, and then I use the TV remote to turn the TV on and off, and to adjust the volume. I use the FIOS remote to change the channels. Needless to say, this is not what I had in mind.

I tried following the instructions for setting up the remote control if the remote codes are invalid or unknown. I tried four times, very carefully, and have even changed the batteries in the remote - but still it does not turn on or off the TV. Here's what I did:

Following the instructions, when you get to the part where you enter "922", and then you point the remote towards the tv and press the upper part of the Play button, the tv suddenly turns off. Great, I thought, I've got it - that's the right code. I then pressed OK on the remote to assign the code in my remote control. Finished.

So it should now turn the tv on and off, you would think. Wrong. The remote control does not turn the tv on or off; I still need to use the television's remote control to do that. I tried both pressing the on/off button by itself on the remote, and pressing first set-top box and then on/off, and neither will turn on the tv. I also tried going back and following the entire procedure again, pressing Play and then Forward, even though by the time I press Forward the tv is off.

Eureka! I did it! I tried a whole list of codes (which did not work), and then went back to your original advice and tried one more time, this time making sure to press "play" and then "forward" (even though the tv had already turned off before I could finish), and then "OK", and this time it worked.

Can anyone tell me please the remote control codes to activate, separately, the Power On and Power Off functions; and the codes that will specifically select input HDMI 1, input HDMI 2...etc for the Sony Bravia TV KDL-55W829B? Grateful for any advice. GeoffH101

1. Sony Bravia TV (KDL-55W829B 'Bravia Sync' i.e. HDMI CEC capable) --- via input HDMI 1 for visual signals from --- Sky Box+ (not currently HDMI CEC capable, but about to be upgraded to include control over HDMI capability on completion of the roll out of the R010 firmware update) --- via optical cable for audio signals to --- Sony AVR STR DB 940 (not HDMI CEC capable) in 'TV/Sat' input mode delivering 5.1 sound from coded broadcasts; and

The issue arises because the native configuration of the TV remote, looking at external inputs, is to select 'move one position on from the present position'. This enables the user to scroll through the menu of available inputs and make a manual selection. This is ok in regular use; but clearly I need the code to select specifically for input HDMI 1 (and separately for HDMI 2) in order to complete the 'one button' sequence of command codes from the URC 8610.

Sorry to have gone on a bit; but I would appreciate any advice or guidance, and especially any information on these specific input selection codes; or, indeed, any other ideas on how this may be done. The best answer may be simply to wait for the R010 firmware update and use the HDMI CEC control over HDMI capability to select device and input channel, and then use further commands to select the matching AVR mode.

Universal remotes can be connected with major brands, including Sony. These remotes can be paired with several different devices, allowing you to control everything using one remote. Setting up a universal remote is also pretty easy, but that is only if you have the correct Sony TV universal remote codes.

Turn on your device > press and hold the Setup, Magic, or Code Search button on your universal remote > let it go after you see a light on the remote > press the device button > enter the code > test the remote.

If the code you entered is correct, the light on the remote will turn off, and you can start using it. But if the light does not turn off, the code is incorrect. In this case, repeat the process from the start and enter a different code this time.

I have an Airpixel commander and it is perfect for my UAV application and I recommend it. For a couple of other photography applications it is over kill so I wanted to be able to trigger and control my A7 over IR from another source.

The IRremote library has plenty of examples but the sony library you need is the 20 nit version and 3 repeats of the code appear to be needed. This code works fine.

This is to trigger a photo capture using the decimal code.

Probably been asked before.. how to do you program the Ignite remote to control the TV through AV system. Presently have Ignite modem connected via HDMI to a Sony STR DG920 AV receiver. Sony TV connected via HDMI to Sony AV receiver. Rogers tech set up the TV using the Ignite remote and everything OK except the volume to the system cannot be controlled by the Ignite remote. I have to use the AV remote to adjust volume. Tried pairing the AV using the Ignite remote and codes but wouldn't work. Anyone have suggestions?

Thanks for info, however this instruction appears to be pairing between the remote and TV. In my case I have the AV receiver between the Rogers box and the TV. Ignite remote works fine changing channels for TV video but not the audio control. My previous Bell system remote handled both video and audio from the remote with the AV setup as described. Does the Ignite system allow only one component to be paired?

I have the xr15 remote. I cannot seem to pair with my Pioneer AV receiver to control volume. I tried to do what you suggested above but I do not see any menu items "setup for audio control" on the ignite box setting menu.

Was anyone able to get this to work? I can get the codes off the website fine. The instructions for entering them are wrong for this remote though. The instructions refer to (and show) using the "setup" button but there is no setup button on the Rogers remote.

I've tried using the menu on the system but it doesn't work. There doesn't seem to be any way to enter codes. If I use the menu it forces me to keep pairing my TV. If I do that I can eventually get to pairing the AV receiver (Yamaha) but the default code doesn't work and there is no option for trying a different code (if you select that it "doesn't work" it just brings up a message saying it can't pair with no option to try anything else).

After more internet searching, I also found that holding the A and the D buttons will do the same thing. You hold them until the light turns green and then enter the 5 digit code you got from the website (link above). The code worked fine for my Yamaha.

I have tried several times to pair the rogers ignite xr 15 remote to my pioneer receiver modle vsx 1127k. I currently have HDMI cable connected from the rogers ignite box to the HDMI Sat/cable port and HDMI cable from HDMI out port of the receiver to the Samsumg ARC HDMI port. The TV speakers are on external speakers as I am using ceiling speakers and not TV speakers.

Anyone have any other suggestions? Is my set up correct? Or is Rogers ignite remote not able to pair with pioneer receiver? Does a receiver need to have RF pairing capability? If so, which receivers on the market today have this feature?

I believe it's also possible to setup TV and audio via a menu on the IgniteTV box, but I'm not on Ignite so I can't give you instructions for that way of doing things, although the instructions may be found in the following page somewhere...
