double check and make sure your software and spotify are updated! i struggled to find the solution to this problem for so long and when i went to spotify it said to update it and that fixed it immediately. If that doesn't work i am so sorry but i don't know what other solution there could be.

hi there! i have been having the same problem for months now and i could never figure out why the sound was only muffled with my phone but when anyone else would plug in their phones it would sound normal. i tried switching out cables, turning the car on and off, powering off my phone, and many other things that did not work. today, though, i realized my spotify was not updated for some reason and after updating i went back to my car and the sound was normal once again. i hope it continues to stay normal, but my suggestion for you would be to make sure your spotify is updated, your software is updated, and your carplay is updated. hope this helps!

If the issue still isn't resolved, reply back letting us know if you also hear static when playing music through your iPhone speaker, headphones, or another Bluetooth accessory (speaker, not CarPlay). Also test other audio through CarPlay from your iPhone like phone calls or videos. The goal will be to narrow down what the static is related to.

However as this problem, going by this thread, affects many vehicle makes, each with different Head Unit electronics hardware, I very much doubt it is a hardware common fault as the chances of that are virtually implausible. It definitely points to how Apple have configured the CarPlay software and it sounds like CarPlay cannot buffer the data in quick enough.

I suspect it is a simple case that Apple CarPlay has a data through-put limitation, probably due to Apples usual over-the-top security restrictions, that cause the data buffer to empty and the databus cannot keep up with demand. Hence the screen and functionality remain functional but the audio begins to contain error and missing data packets as it tries and fails to keep up with demand for visuals and audio over the one USB cable.

I sent my iPhone 14 ProMax back as the car play will not work the crackling and distorted sound was doing my head and having to keep plugging it in and unplugging it was not good for my lightning port all it does is just lower the lifespan of it having to keep plugging and unplugging it I spoke to Apple and they act like they've never heard of this problem before I just gave up I have no just bought a Samsung watch 5 Pro and a z fold 4 use the Samsung phone today in my van via Android auto and didn't have one problem on a 4-hour journey

so when you connect you phone via bluetooth and listen to music there is NO static/ crackling sound, but when your iphone connected through wireless apple car play, there is static sound while playing music.

And as for carplay software: dealer told me that is also the latest available. They also confirm that there are a lot of cases of static sound and as they told me They are waiting for a software update from Apple where it will be fixed, so I want to be sure that Apple is aware of that issue. ARE YOU?

Imagine how bad is it to buy a new car and not being able to listen to the music? Bluetooth is jot an option since I always using iphone navigator and and it connected via wireless car play and it is impossible to use carplay and to listen to the music via bluetooth separately.

Hi everyone. So far my solution is working very well. I simply bought a wireless CarPlay adapter plugged it in and now my phone connects to my cars CarPlay wirelessly using Bluetooth and so far has been working very fast and no cracking sounds.

January 28/2024 and still the same issue in iOS 17.3. And yes I have done everything including resetting all settings and device restore from iMac. Sounds and alerts are enabled and all is right and still 8 to 100 mails have no notification in Lock Screen. Also I notice that despite I have the sound in full, alerts from other apps sounds soft and in app sounds like Pinterest sounds loud despite I have sounds in zero. What is happening?

I just contacted Apple regarding this issue, and the people I spoke with, while friendly, gave me a lot of the same answers all of you have been getting. They took me through the exact same trouble shooting steps I've already tried multiple, multiple times on my own. They even went so far as to tell me to erase my phone and start from scratch. I want my email sounds, but not that badly. Restoring is a massive pain in the tail. Anyway, I'll try this lock screen suggestion, just for fun, but as a voiceover user, I suspect that this will end up being more of an annoyance than it's worth. All I know is that everything was fine prior to iOS 17. I've gone into the custom notifications for mail, and all is as it should be. Let's hope that Apple decides to acknowledge this issue as a bug sooner rather than later.

same isssue... even if you buy ringtones.. apple mail notifications are NOT able to use the ringtones.. or my garage band ring tone I had made years prior.. all because of iOS 17... big issue for me as I need to HEAR apple mail coming through my cellphone

Same issue - No "notification" sound when receiving Apple Mail email. I have Gmail and Outlook clients installed on all my devices - mail notification sounds work fine. Apple Mail notification sounds do not work on iPad, iPhone, and MacBook either. Everything is turned on as suggested in this thread to no avail. Also, I am running custom domain email with iCloud+ with several folders.

I made sure all settings were as suggested. Lock Screen notifications are on & all other setting that enable sound for incoming Mail. Still not working & I really need that warning in my hearing aids.

I have the same problem. I tried everything listed and even reset settings which is a real pain. No sound for incoming Mail on the Mail app or the outlook app. Both are set to have notifications. Would like to have a fix asap.

I ditched my Android phone for an iPhone because of this. Now I'm facing the same issue with iPhone too. I get the feeling that manufacturers are trying to cram so many new features into mobile devices that nothing works well anymore.

The solution I found is in settings, then notifications, then mail, you MUST have Lock Screen notifications on have any sound when you receive an email. If, like me, you have sound notifications on, but all visual alerts on screen off, you will not get any sound notifications either on ios17. I will now try this with other apps

I had the same problem as others here and finally found the issue. In settings, notifications, mail and go down to customize notifications. Had to set iCloud to Alerts, Sounds, Badges. I set it a couple of times and for some reason kept changing. It finally stayed set, have no idea why it was changing on me. To get all three to show I had to turn them on in remind me, then once iCloud was set I turned remind me back to off. See pics, hope this helps someone. It affected iOS 17.3 and my MacBook Pro running MacOS 14.3 and now both are fixed.

I am having the exact same problem with my iPhone12 Pro Max (14.6) in my Range Rover Sport SVR... I get no audio for Google, Waze or Apple Maps, no sounds for any notifications, no keyboard clicks, etc. I do get audio for Apple Music and Pandora like normal and the phone is working correctly.

I have done all of the suggested "fixes", hard restarted my phone with all apps killed and toggled Siri... still not working. I am at the latest version of the Land Rover software. So, either my Land Rover software is not compatible with CarPlay in 14.6, or 14.6 has changes that are not backward compatible...or some serious bugs.

I called Apple support and they were unusually not helpful with this bug. They suggested I do all the above fixes and then told me I needed to re-install my iOS, which I will not do. It was obviously a heavily scripted call. Then they suggested I contact my vehicle vendor... I did not bother to ask to a senior advisor.

Never mind, I finally got it to work! I went into the settings on Google maps, went to volume, and it said I could adjust it while it was speaking. Put in an address, turned up the volume, and everything works now! Apple Maps has sound again and I can hear my text alerts.

the only mapping App that seems to have voice is google maps. That only works if I do not use any other CarPlay apps with sound. So I must listen to broadcast radio or to Sirius. If I switch to Apple Music or Podcast no voice directions.

Step 7 in the article we referenced, which is to contact your car manufacturer to ensure your head unit has the latest firmware, is a great next step. We're glad to hear you have this planned out already.

If the dealer states all is fine on their end, and your head unit is running the latest firmware but the issue remains, we'd recommend contacting Apple Support for further assistance after that: Get Support

Effectively if you have a Jaguar Land Rover equipped with CarPlay you liking have faulty maps. The dealer just printed out a page with all these various cars that no longer work after upgrade to your head deck and 14.6. It appears to all be in the side of JLR and not really Apple at least that was the dealers comment. He said hopefully with the WiFi updates in the coming weeks or months they will get it fixed.
