Dilan1990 is a 2018 Indonesian coming of age romantic drama film. It is based on the novel Dilan: Dia adalah Dilanku Tahun 1990 (Dilan: He is My Dilan in 1990) by Pidi Baiq.[1][2][3][4] The film stars Iqbaal Ramadhan and Vanesha Prescilla as the main roles,[5][6] with some high-profile names in supporting, minor, or cameo roles; Farhan, Happy Salma, Adhisty Zara of idol group JKT48, and Ridwan Kamil, the then-Mayor of Bandung. The film has been watched by 6.3 million people, and is the best-selling Indonesian film of 2018 and the second best-selling Indonesian film of all time, just behind Warkop DKI Reborn: Jangkrik Boss! Part 1 with 6.8 million viewers.[7] The film is followed by a sequel, Dilan 1991, which was released on 28 February 2019.

In 1990, Milea, along with her parents and sister, move from Jakarta to Bandung. On her way to school, she meets Dilan, a guy known in school as the "bad boy" and leader of a motorbike gang. After a short conversation, Dilan convinces her that she will sit on his bike with him as her girlfriend one day.

Dilan begins flirting by coming to her house, making payphone calls and sending her cheesy gifts. Unbeknown to him, Milea already has a boyfriend named Benni in Jakarta, however gradually, she no longer feels comfortable with him since he is rude and foul-mouthed. With Dilan's frequent overconfident advances, Milea starts to develop feelings for him. During a school visit to the TVRI headquarters in Jakarta where she and other students are invited as quiz show contestants, Milea and Nandan encounter Benni, who aggressively beats Nandan, suspecting that he will "steal" his girlfriend. When Benni calls Milea indecent. she angrily dumps Benni, and he calls Milea a whore. She rejects his later apology.

Gradually, Dilan and Milea grow closer. They spend days riding Dilan's motorbike, holding hands, and phoning at night. Milea successfully persuades Dilan to stop being involved in gang fights for good. As she builds a good relationship with his mother, Milea learns that he has been love poems about her.

One day, personal tutor Kang Adi, who apparently is in love with Milea, takes her to his university, the Bandung Institute of Technology, despite her refusal. When Dilan finds out, he writes a dismay-infused letter, much to her despair. The next day, she looks for him at school only to get into a fight with a drunken Anhar, one of Dilan's gang members, who unwittingly slaps Milea. Knowing this, Dilan beats Anhar in anger. Later that day, Dilan and Milea officiate their relationship with a proclamation.

As it has only been out less than two weeks, Dilan 1990 is estimated to soon surpass other popular films, like Pengabdi Setan (Satan's Slave), Habibie & Ainun and Laskar Pelangi (Rainbow Troops), which all attracted an audience of around 4 million. It might even claim the number one spot, held since 2016 by Warkop DKI Reborn: Jangkrik Boss Part 1 with 6,858,616 viewers. (kes)

A teen romantic drama, Dilan 1991, has become a huge box-office hit in Indonesia not long after its release. It attracted an audience of 2 million only three days after its release in late February. So far, the sequel to Dilan 1990 is set to replicate the success of the first movie, the second-most-watched movie in Indonesian cinema history with 6.2 million viewings.

The Dilan film series is based on the best-selling trilogy of novels, Dilan, written by Pidi Baiq. It explores love, high school life, solidarity among youth and conflicts between peers and with older generations.

The story line reminds me of the Hollywood musical classic Grease about a teen romantic relationship between Sandy (Olivia Newton-John), a schoolgirl, and Danny (John Travolta), a member of motorbike club. At the end of the story, Sandy changes her hair and dress style, more like Danny, showing that she finally embraces his world.

This will allow the audience to experience the story from both the male and female perspectives. When the film trilogy is completed, we will be able to see how this use of two narrators affects the way the story is told.

This movie is the cringiest, cheesiest, most barf-inducing romance movie I have ever seen in my entire life. The dialogue is so awkward and cheesy and basically my entire facial expression throughout the whole movie is just different variations of errgh and ew.

I have to be honest though, this movie is loads better to watch when you're watching it with a couple of girlfriends and just laughing at the cheesy parts. The beginning through the middle is the worst part, but after that the cheesiness almost became usual and I almost kinda enjoyed it, like Stockholm Syndrome.

You know why i gave this movie a .5 star? because if i gave it a 0 it'll say that i didn't give it a rating, which couldn't be more further from the truth. i hate this movie with a burning passion and i want it to clearly say on my profile that i. gave. this. gobshit. a. fucking. zero. but it wouldn't, so i guess i'll settle on that .5

Entah kenapa aku udah ngerencanain nonton film ini dari jauh-jauh.... bulan kalau kata Rina. Padahal aku bukan perempuan yang ngejadiin Dilan sebagai manic pixie dream boy. Aku juga punya novel Dilan cuma satu biji dari (kalau nggak salah) tiga biji. Aku punya yang pertama, yang difilmkan ini. Itupun belinya karena tau ini bakal difilmkan dan berkat review dari Robby, adik kecilku di grup blogger WIRDY. Aku nggak mau nyesal nggak baca novelnya kayak waktu dulu nonton Sabtu Bersama Bapak.

Aku terhibur banget. Iqbaal sama Vanessha chemistry-nya dapet. Mereka berdua tuh lucu! Sebagai film debutnya Sasha, acting dia di sini lumayan, lho. Ditambah suaranya yang imut manja gitu. Gemes?. Suka, deh!

Bermain dengan ekspektasi penonton memang tidak mudah. Tapi "Dilan 1990" berhasil menjawab tantangan itu. Semua gombalan yang di deliver oleh Iqbaal berhasil menohok audience dan tidak "apa banget sih". He's romantic without even trying. Saya sebagai penonton yang jarang kemakan gombalan receh, runtuh pertahanan nya dan baper seketika. Naskah yang kuat serta para aktor yang bermain dengan tulus adalah rahasia bagusnya film ini.
