Hiking is something that I've fallen in love with since moving to the Pacific Northwest, specifically since I moved to the Kitsap Peninsula (Washington state) with my man. It's always a part of my Summer Love List.

What's a Summer Love List, you ask? Well, instead of saying "bucket list" I prefer to use "love list" because the word "love" definitely feels more positive, engaging and desirable. Plus, you naturally shift to a positive mindset and are more likely to raise your level of interest and create time and space (and give yourself permission) for yourself. Make sense?

Here are some of my summer ideas! Make homemade iced tea and/or lemonade! Go garage saleing! Go to a park and swing on some swings! Eat fresh picked fruits (blueberries/strawberries). Tie dye something!

After my first purchase from Fran, I immediately fell in love with her designs, her craftsmanship, her attention to detail. So, when the Summer Love 1951 dress appeared before my joy-starved retinas, I knew it was time to make another one of her creations mine. Fran does both ready to wear sizes and made-to-measure garments, which really help you get that fit of dreams. After a quick flurry of messages back and forth with Fran to accommodate my extra long torso, my dress went into creation and I patiently waited for the folds of red embroidered perfection to find their way to me from Switzerland.

ESTRIN: There's no greater love than self-love. That's the theme of the hit summer Netflix series "Survival Of The Thickest." Mavis Beaumont breaks up with her cheating boyfriend and starts a new life designing clothing for plus-sized women.

TRE'VELL ANDERSON: You know, it's a fat Black woman who loves who she is. The only people who really have an issue with her body are, like - it's the outside world. There's a joke at the top of the show in which she's like, you know, he's cheating on me with, like, a skinnier version of me.

THOMPSON: This song is just a rush of kind of sexy devotion. And in a summer where a lot of the biggest songs weren't necessarily tapping into themes of love and seduction, this song felt very summery.

Where did you grow up? Warrenton, Virginia, Singapore, and Qatar
What were your childhood hobbies/favorite activities? Checking out the maximum number of books from the library, writing stories, playing make believe games with my sister (mermaids at the pool was our summer go-to!), and making up dances with my friends.
What did you want to be when you grew up? A writer! Of books, not wedding magazines, but close enough :)

The earliest tubers to go out, in May, all survived, despite our cool nights lasting well into early summer. After a slow start, they are responding to our heat and making lots of new leaves. Watching each huge new leaf unroll brings its own pleasure! Our hot, humid summers offer the tropical climate these lovely beauties crave.

They are neat and require very little care, beyond keeping them watered when there is a break in the summer rain. Caladiums are raised on sandy soils in Florida, but they appreciate compost in their soil, and a little feeding to keep them going strong.

Big, bold, surprisingly beautiful; elephant ears fill the garden with mass, texture, and movement as they swish and sway in the breeze. Carefree and attractive, rely on them to look great during the heat of summer.

Don, that is exceptionally generous! I would be thrilled to trial some of your introductions. Please write to me at woodla...@zoho.com. There is a whole community of Caladium lovers in our neighborhood now. I ordered about 250 tubers this spring, and shared them around the neighborhood. Thank you so much!

Whether you are looking for summer romance books for teens or are an adult who loves YA romances that take place during summertime, these are my go-to recommendations that are always a hit with people.

But a summer tradition of a family-wide game of Assassin and a groomsman she tries really hard not to fall (who also happens to be her target) for provide a fun distraction as she tries to get through this summer tradition without her sister.

This sapphic romcom (set in Ireland!) is about two teen girls who, after a meet cute, decide to have a summer fling that has a definitive, binding end date come Fall. But until then? They plan a fun summer romance full of every cliche, rom-com worthy date they can dream up before they break things off according to plan. As you can imagine, the plan is easier said than done as the two begin to fall for one another!

Two teens have spent the past six summers together, at the lake with their families, tormenting and pranking one another. But their feud goes a little too far which gets their families kicked out of their rental and the parents scrambling to rent one large house together for the rest of the summer.

I LOVE a good travel/vacation-set romance (and this one did NOT disappoint. The romance is wonderful (hate to love vibes), the setting is fantastic (Mediterranean cruise!) but it also plenty of substantive fodder for a teen book club book!

Fun summer romance book for teens but also really loved the growth of the main character and her relationship with her dad change over the course of the summer once she really gets involved with the family business.

In between trying to find that out, she takes a summer job at a museum and finds herself having complicated feelings for her work nemesis that have her unsure which direction her love life should go.

Ok so I am ALMOST done with The Distance Between Us and while probably not a 5 star read for me, I can get the appeal of Kasie West, as she certainly does the bantery romance well. Wonderful post, Lauren! (Also I love your graphics!)

Ah, one of my favorite topics. I loved loved loved The Pushcart War! Definitely an all-time favorite. For some reason I could never get into Island of the Blue Dolphins as a kid. And I was introduced to Le Petit Nicolas as an exercise for learning French! ?

So many of my favorites here! I *love* The Great Brain books, my Mom has the whole set, and I am slowly finding (and shelling out big bucks) for the out-of-print books on eBay. And 21 Balloons has been a favorite of mine forever as well.

The Pushcart War!! We live in Madison, WI, and this was a family read-aloud for us during the protests of 2011. The kids were a little young for it, but it helped us talk as a family about the influence of money in politics and the value of marching in the streets. It was one of my favorites when I was a kid; I remember reading it hunkered down in the school library stacks in fourth grade, thinking I was breaking some kind of rule with such a subversive book. Love, love, love.

Oh my gosh I loved all of the Great Brain books! We recently moved and in going through a couple of boxes of my old books I kept to pass along I came across the entire Great Brain set, which I plan to re-read. My girls are younger than all of these, so I will check out the other links you provide and some of your older posts, but thank you! Will file away for future reference!

I love it when my kids read my original copies. My two favorites that I saved and they have read are mixed up files and bunicula. They loved both but I think more since it was my copy. Then going around nyc on vacation made mixed up files even more meaningful. Love all your suggestions!
