Dear fellow physician,
It is time to stand up for our patients and our
profession. We are all frustrated in one way or another by the burdensome
paperwork, ever increasing regulations, ridiculous documentation minutia, time
spent on the computer instead of in front of the patient, all to be paid less
and less by the government programs and insurance companies. And that was
before the Affordable Care Act kicked in.
How many of you feel that your ability to care for
patients is enhanced enough to justify the cost, time away from patient care
and the re-learning of medical facts to answer questions about topics you will
never, ever use in your practices? Maintenance of Certification (MOC) is
discouraging many, and causing our colleagues to time their retirements so as
to avoid the next round of testing. Do you realize that the efficacy of this
onerous requirement of MOC, especially with the patient care modules, has
never been proven?
Would you like to meet the attorney that is suing the
American Board of Medical Specialties on our behalf for requiring MOC in order
to keep the title "Board Certified" after our MD or DO? Andy Schlafly,
Esq. has agreed to speak at a fundraiser for me on Tuesday, August 19th in
Brick, NJ. He was a classmate of Barack Obama and served on the Harvard Law
Review with him. He will give insight you will not hear anywhere else.
There are many reasons why I have an excellent chance of
winning in the formerly Democratic 12th district of NJ, one being that the
majority of voters are unaffiliated with any party and are pretty upset with
the direction our country is going. From foreign affairs, the economy,
immigration, jobs, education, energy policy and the ACA-- people are looking
for the right kind of change. And I pledge to work to effect that
change.
All I need are the funds to get the word out. That is why I
am writing to you. Please join us on August 19th at 6 PM for cocktails and
7 PM for dinner at the waterfront Cedarcroft Club in Brick Township, NJ.
Demonstrate solidarity of physicians who are willing to fight for the private
patient-physician relationship and the quality of care we all want to deliver.
That's why we went into medicine in the first place. Help to get a
practicing medical doctor into the US Congress-- one with a proven record of
providing real solutions to assuring high quality care for all patients,
regardless of ability to pay..
Please download the invitation that is attached. Send it to
all the doctors on your e-mail list, or print it to post in the doctors'
lounge. Then RSVP at
eckforcongress.com or on my Eck for US
Congress Facebook page. And spread the word.
If you cannot attend,
please become a "Doc for Eck" anyway and make a donation of $200 to my
campaign. Many of you have already been generous, and with this extra push
WE WILL WIN THIS.
Thanks, and we can all celebrate together on November 4th
and again when I am sworn in on January 3rd in Washington, DC. Let's fix
health care. With your help, I will be a loud voice representing YOU in the US
Congress.
