I am Dr. Alieta Eck, a physician who is running for Congress
in NJ CD12. I ran in the NJ Special Election for the Republican Primary for US
Senate this past summer, beginning as a virtual unknown. I managed to secure
26,000 votes in a two month campaign.
After gaining name recognition, I was encouraged to run for
Congress against Rush Holt in NJ CD12, and began to put together a campaign in
December. In mid-February of this year, Rush Holt declared that he would not
run again. This is now an open seat and the Democrats are in a 4-way
contentious primary. I was able to raise more than $100,000 in the
first quarter, considered to be an important benchmark for a serious
candidate.
I participated in an ACLU debate with all four Democrats on
May 1st, and PolitickerNJ called me WINNER. Here is a clip that appeared on
the news that evening.
I am a physician in private practice, and my
husband, John, and I also operate a non-government free clinic, founded in
2003, for the poor and uninsured.
We are working on a plan New Jersey-- the potential for
REAL entitlement reform. Because of our experience with the Zarephath Health
Center, (
www.zhcenter.org) where we care for the poor and uninsured,
we have learned the value of real non-government charity, especially the fact
that we can deliver good care at 10th the cost of what the government
provides. Our clinic accepts no government money and sees 300-400 patients per
month.
The NJ bill is S94, and we are finally being invited to
bring it before Senator Joe Vitale, the chairman of the NJ Senate Health
Committee, on May 19th. Once he agrees, the entire Committee will have a
hearing on the bill. We have garnered enough support to see it passed out of
committee, whereupon it will most likely pass in the Senate and Assembly. Our
state faces a severe financial crisis, and this could make a huge
difference.
The essence of the legislation would be for physicians to
donate 4 hours per week in or through a non-government free clinic, where the
actual care costs the taxpayers nothing. Then we would ask the State to
provide medical malpractice coverage to the entire practice of a physician who
donates this significant amount of time. Since Medicaid cost $13 billion
in NJ--over 1/3 of the entire state budget, the potential savings could be
huge.
On Monday, I was interviewed by Tony Perkins of the FRC. Here is a
clip of the discussion. I am the first person to be interviewed on this
nationwide program.
I am seeking the support of like-minded citizens from all walks of
life. Even if you are not in the 12th District of NJ, when I get to
Washington, I will be working on behalf of all the hardworking people in
America. Please consider a donation to my campaign by going to

Sincerely,
