Birding time! Shana and I are going on a short birding excursion to the Woodlands on Saturday morning 3/30 on the hunt for a Pileated Woodpecker (it's a lifer for Shana).
We're going to meet at George Mitchell Nature Preserve Trailhead at Creekside at 9:20am (address is Dr Ann Snyder Drive, The Woodlands, TX 77375 -- drive to END of the street to the small Trailhead parking lot). Or you can ride with me from my house -- meeting at 8:20am.
We'll walk a 1.5 mile loop to check the place where a pair of PIWOs has been reported by a friend of a friend...
Interested? Join me. If not, no worries.
I got info from a friend of a friend about a reliable site for Pileated WPs. Do you wanna try for them?
They are at the George Mitchell Creekside Nature Preserve in the Woodlands. Here is a map of the area:
It's a 0.7 mile out & 0.7 mile back walk -- 1.4 miles total walking.
The guy sees them quite a few times and they are always working in one particular area...
I'm game to try, if you are. How does Wednesday morning March 27th work for you? I have to leave no later than 11:20a or so to get to my volunteer gig at the church... We could meet at the parking lot for the nature preserve in the morning (you pick the time) & go for it! 8) It is located north of Creekside Forest Drive on Dr Ann Snyder Drive...
