The month against homophobia in Belarus

Belarusian Gay-activists have directed applications to the Gomel and Minsk executive committees with the request of carrying out of actions dated to " International day against homophobia "

 

Yesterday have been sent applications to the Gomel and Minsk city executive committees with the request for the sanction of carrying out of information actions within the limits of  "The Month against homophobia in Belarus” dated to " International day against homophobia" which is marked in the different countries of the world on May, 17th.

 

In applications organizers ask to resolve carrying out of the information action in Gomel around A.A.Gromyko's monument, on May, 4th, 2008 and in  Minsk park on May, 10th, 2008 from 12.00 am till 2 pm.

 

Predictably, the current all Belarusian gay-lesbian initiatives and the organizations will take part in actions.

 

Applications are addressed to Chairman of the Gomel city executive committee and Chairman of the Minsk city executive committee. Refusal or the sanction in carrying out of actions will be given within two weeks, according to the belarusian law.

 

Not looking at a cancelling of clause and a recognition of homosexuals in a society in many countries of the world, still there is a discrimination and homophobia. Does not differ from the world tendency and Belarus. Not everyone can accept and approve unisex attitudes as men with men, and women with women.

 

From April, 17th till May, 17th in Minsk and Gomel will pass actions on decrease in a level homophobia in the country.

 

"The month against homophobia in Belarus" is an original attempt to pay attention to a problem homophobia and its dangers to all society. It is an opportunity to answer on homophobia rhetoric by creation of space without discrimination and hatred in relation to people.

 

As organizers of a month have acted: Information centre "TEMA", the International Amnesty Belarus, Portal Gay.by, Site Gayby.org, Initiative of young belarusian gays, Initiative group of the belarusian gays "BelQueer".
