Did the function of the volume rocker change with iOs11? Even on my home screen, it will only change sound volume, not ringer volume. Even if I toggle the silence switch, ringer volume will pop up, but if you hit the rocker button, it changes volume instead.

I am trying to get a UISlider to sync with the volume rocker. I have successfully used the slider to change the system/ringer volume, but I need the slider to move when the rocker moves. any suggestions on how to get the current volume value? I am using the code below to monnitor the volume change:

There is a class available in the SDK which handles the system volume all by itself, MPVolumeView. It's not a subclass of UISlider therefore you can't change it's appearance (Well, it would be hard hacking it together all by yourself) but that's probably not an issue. (edit: looking at class dumps, the view contains a normal UISlider view so it may be easier than I expected)

I've been using the Fenix 6S with the Powerbeats Pro for some time, but lately I have noticed that the volume rocker has stopped working when they are paired with my Fenix 6S. Has anyone else found this? It's not a physical fault with the headphones as the volume rocker works fine when paired with my iPhone. It used to work with the watch. It's pretty annoying since the volume rocker was one of the main reasons for buying these headphones. Now I have the AirPods Pro I may just use them for running instead and sell my Powerbeats Pro.

Thank you for taking the time to report your Powerbeats Pro volume control issue. Please update your Fenix 6 software firmware version to 6.00 and see if the volume control starts working again through your Powerbeats. I have sent you a Private Message to directly respond back to me on this issue.

I have upgraded to v6.0 and the volume rocker still doesn't work. I went to Apple to ensure the latest firmware for the Powerbeats Pro is installed, and they confirmed there is no firmware of hardware issue with the headphones since the rocker works fine with Apple devices. This is an issue with the Fenix software, so please can you fix this.

The issue with Sonos is well known, and was functionally resolved for Chromecast users in early 2022, myself included. However, lately, I have lost the ability to control cast volume from my phone when using apps. The only way to control Chromecast volume using the phone rocker button seems to be to use the Google Home app, basically regressing to the behavior before Google supposedly addressed the issue in January 2022. Am I alone in this?

Thanks for posting and for providing detailed info about your issue. Could you please try to use a different mobile phone and check if the same issue persists? Also, please try to do a reset on one of your Chromecast and try again.

Thanks for getting back to us and for additional info. Have you tried to use a different Android phone and check if the same issue persists? If you haven't yet, please try that. If the issue is only isolated when using the Pixel phone, please reach out to Pixel for additional help.

Just checking in to make sure that you've seen my response. Please let me know if you have other questions or concerns as I will be locking this in 24 hours if I won't hear back from you again. Feel free to start a new thread and we'll be happy to help.

It appears one feature of the Apple Watch Ultra may be making its way to the iPhone Pro models this year. The mechanical mute switch is being replaced by a capacitive button, and a reliable source indicates that this may also function as a user-programmable iPhone 15 Action button.

Earlier this month, new CAD drawings led our 3D render artist Ian Zelbo to conclude that the two iPhone 15 Pro models will replace the existing volume buttons and mute switch with new capacitive buttons.

One issue with this change is that the iPhone is powered on, and reset, by button presses. Capacitive buttons require power to operate, so a leaker who got Dynamic Island details right says that Apple is addressing this through a new super-low energy mode. He shared these details on the MacRumors forum.

Currently, the Low Energy mode is capable of doing small tasks; like using Apple Pay when the phone is dead, or being able to use Bluetooth to connect to other iOS/Mac devices to constantly track your device with the Find My Network (started in iOS 15).

The new micro-processor that will ship in the 15 Pro models will not only manage those tasks, but will also be able to immediately sense capacitive button presses, holds, and even detect their own version of 3D Touch with the new volume up/down button, action (currently ringer switch) button, and power button, while the phone is dead or powered down.

He says Apple is still deciding whether or not to include haptic feedback when the phone is powered off. The hardware design is of course complete by this stage, but this would be a software switch, so the company can make this decision at any point before launch.

Similarly, the volume rocker may support faster change as you press harder, or slide-to-change functionality. This too would be software controlled, opening the possibility of users choosing how it works.

This new mode will also handle the features available in the current low-energy mode: Find My, Bluetooth/ultrawideband, and Apple Pay Express Transit. It will be more efficient, enabling these features to last for longer.

This suggests that it will be user-programmable, like the Action button on the Apple Watch Ultra. Many people keep their iPhones muted at all times, relying on vibrations for alerts, so may wish to use the button for something else.

Apple could treat that button like the Apple Watch Ultra treats its button: as a trigger for a single, global shortcut that would be executed no matter where you were in the iPhone interface. Imagine mapping it to the Camera app or the flashlight feature, for instance.

He also raises the biggest complaint about the Action button on the Apple Watch Ultra: It can only do two things (single press and double-press), no matter which app you are using. Many have asked for it to be contextual, so that different functions can be assigned to it in different apps.

There are several design elements that have been mostly static on the iPhone for years, even as the phone has grown in size and the display has evolved. One such element is the volume rocker, which still consists of two pill-shaped buttons on the left side of the device. That might change this fall, as recent rumors suggest that the iPhone 15 Pro will feature a single volume button similar to what we saw on the original iPhone (but with some technological upgrades).

He came to this conclusion while putting together an iPhone 15 Pro concept based on the leaked CAD drawings. Apple has always used two pins on each of the volume buttons (so four in all), but the iPhone 15 Pro CAD drawings only show two pins in total.

Meanwhile, the CAD drawings for the base model iPhone 15 feature two slots for volume buttons with four pins in all. If these leaked materials are legitimate, then it seems likely that the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will feature a unified volume rocker, while the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will retain the familiar two-button layout.
